Any positive press about the 996 Turbo or the 997 Turbo is a good thing. I expect the 997 prices to always be higher than the 996. So if this article boosts 997 prices, then that just gives more headroom for 996.

Also consider that there are a lot fewer 997.1 Turbos in a 6-speed available than there are 996 Turbos in a 6-speed. If this article draws new shoppers to the 997, they will likely find a 996 in a manual more easily and for a lower price, so they may see the light and go 996 :P

I've driven both. The 997TT is head and shoulders faster.
No I don't think its "huge" especially comparing it the x50, its only 20hp more.
I like the 997tt more but this article is making it sound likes its such a bargain but IMO you get a better bang for the buck out of the 996TT

If this article were accurate...I'd have a 997 turbo. Fact is, comparable low mileage 997 turbos go for anywhere from $20-35k more than 996 tt's, from my research.

Now that it's been a while and I've cooled off, I have to say you summed it up perfectly...That is what I meant in my OP

I just hate such misleading statements.

Really, you've driven both? Doubtful, otherwise you wouldn't talk such bollocks!

In reality there is zero perception that the 997tt is being noticeably faster. Actually driving both back to back the 996tt feels faster as boost in 997tt is more linear. Sure the 997tt will pull away on the straight but only by a very small margin. We are talking car lengths not disappearing into the distance.

Furthermore, here is some proper data for you to consider. Stock for stock in the real world beyond marketing waffle; (official Porsche data) 0 to standing kilometre time for the 997 turbo is 21.5 secs and for the 996 turbo its 21.8 secs.

You call this head and shoulders faster? Wow?

You also need to consider the Bhp per tone difference whereby 997 turbo is 45kgs heavier than 996 turbo. So in fact only 30 bhp advantage goes to the 997tt (302 versus 272 bhp per tonne).

Head and shoulders faster? You statment is bollocks. ;-).

The article was written by a dimwit. And so is the fat bloke in the video he talks some crap it's unbelievable. I love all Porsches. I hate the 997 versus the 996 debate. And I really hate when 997 people go beating 996 into an underdog. Such people to me are cluless ****#%es. They are both great cars similar in performance whereby 997 takes the edge. It's the looks and interior which swings people one way or the other. But each to their own. I just hate newer / better debates because lately I find the opposite is true. Just my 2 cents.

no not really a 996 6 speed is not much slower than a 997 6speed, assuming drivers equal....... its not head and shoulders at all

now a 997.2 turbo S yes, and i own both a 996 and a997tts.. that car blows a stock t996 turbo S out of water with your eyes closed.
