Check Engine

Hey All,

So I was driving home tonight on the FWY, was in 5th gear and gave her some boost to get around a slower driver, nothing crazy. Check engine pops on, and I lose all power. Zero throttle response and I coast to a stop, in a dangerous part of the fwy I might add on the shoulder. On my Cobb AP my AFR's were off the chart around 40-50 and idle was really rough. I turned the car off, waited a moment, and turned it back on. Fired right up, everything felt normal again, yet the Check Engine is still on, and now my Cobb AP is stuck on the "Trying to connect to your car" state. I live 2 miles from where I was and because the idle seemed fine again I drove very slowly back to my house, car drove normally.

I can't check the code on my AP because it won't connect.

Anyone hear of anything like this? Familiar symptoms? Thoughts?

Thanks

Doug

Try a few on/off cycles with the key, taking it completely out and I bet the Cobb will come back. Also, you went into limp mode and will likely need your codes read by a Durametric.

MAFless? Any chance a boost hose popped loose? If you're still using the MAF and popped a hose loose car will be very unhappy. Codes first...

ASLAN you were right, with about 4-5 full on/off cycles the Cobb came back, thanks for that.

So I've never checked codes on my Cobb unit but two things came up,

DME
P1508 - Torque Comparison

CEL is still on however now that Cobb is back up the numbers look good again and the car seems to be running fine. I'm obviously not going to take it for a test drive until I figure things out and clear the CEL. From some reading online it seems it might be a bad MAF sensor?

That darn MAF is the root of a lot of issues and CELs! I got rid of mine!

Probably a boost hose got loose. Psm abs lights? How long have you had the Cobb ?
Disconnect the maf harness and see if the car behaves normal. If so it's mass air flow sensor.
As usual, pressure test the car. Here is a link

What mods do you have?

See if you can get the ap to work, or get a durametric.

I've had a similar issue, mafless tune.

P1508 - Torque comparison function monitor - signal implausible

Mods -

K24/18G Turbos
EVOMS Inlet Pipes
Forge Boost Hoses
80 lb Siemens Injectors
911 Tuning Intercoolers
Sachs Stage 2.5 Clutch
Kline 76mm Decat Exhaust with Slash Cut tips

MARKSKI@911tuning - No PSM or ABS lights are stuck on after the fact, but the PSM may have flickered as it will when you lose traction.

So I was able to spend some time with the car today to troubleshoot. I did a boost leak test and everything was dead tight, no leaks anywhere. I took out the MAF sensor and did see quite a bit of dirt on it, and cleaned it away properly. The surface doesn't look as perfectly slick as I would assume it should be stock; looks almost pitted or scratched slightly in certain areas. I cleared the PS1508 Code and put everything back together and she seems to back to normal. I'll see if this happens again and maybe replace the MAF completely if so.

One thing that you all may be able to help me with, I noticed a small air hiss coming from the center of the motor, around the throttle body while at idle. We heard it before the boost leak test and would have bet money I had a leak, but couldn't find one. We also looked for vacuum hoses that may not be on tight but couldn't... Am I crazy? It's a very subtle hiss but it's there, maybe it's always been that way but I didn't hear it until I was listening for something like that. /shrug

Get rid of that maf sensor and go mafless. Mine drives so much better and code free.
