Thanks

Oak,

Yes that was mine. Im was trying to get this issue sorted out, with no resolution in three days.

MBaily,

Well the best way to explain or to get to happen is be 1 gear below the optimal gear. Then punch it around 3-4 RPMS. The engine area starts to shake and the car spits, or sputters.

Kevin,

What was the issue? Any insight would be wonderfull and most appreciated!

I am currently running K16/K24 hybrids, gemballa exhaust, Gt2 intercoolers. I am also running a GIAC ECU running @ 1 Bar right now.

Please help! Desperate!

Have you set a "check engine" light yet? Saw something like this happen to a friend's car. At first the car exhibited an occasional hesitation at about 4000 RPMs which you could "drive through" if you applied full throttle. As time passed the hesitation got worse, until the car actually shuddered if you kept on the gas. It took a few driving cycles and the CEL came on. The fault code read as a misfire on a particular cylinder. At first, they replaced that plug only which seemed to take care of the problem, but the misfire/CEL reappeared. They then replaced all the plugs only to again experience a temporary fix. On the third CEL, a new coil and spark plug was installed for the particular cylinder which exhibited the misfire (based upon reading the ECU fault code) and that seemed to work long term. Obviously, having the computer tell you which cylinder is misfiring can narrow the field somewhat. Hope this info can be of some help.

Marty:

Actually, I believe it was the coil pack replacement that finally did the trick for my friend's Turbo. It would help if you knew which cylinder(s) were misfiring, since I believe the coil packs are substantially more expensive than plugs. I'm guessing you haven't thrown a CEL yet??

I have a 2001 turbo with EVO stage four that began to misfire and backfire at wot. At first there was no code thrown ,but eventually the check engine light came on. I had the plugs changed which helped slightly. Eventually the problem was tracked down to a faulty mass airflow sensor. This sensor was replaced and the problem has never returned.

Jack,

Check Engine Light has came on. It would go out after a couple of restarts however.

Will the diagnostics tell them what cylinder it is miss firing on?

The plugs should be the FR6s, the 5s don't last long enough. This comes from Porsche not me. Also DO NOT run the P4s in the car. It does NOT like and and will run like hell. The check engine light is noticing the resistance of the coil changing and reads it as a misfire. Change all the plugs and you should be golden. Those with late 01s forward don't sweat it. Porsche ran the 6s from the get go.
