996 tt shifter upgrade advice
I want to upgrade my 996 stock shifter. Car is not a daily driver nor track driven but stock shifter is just horrible. What is the best upgrade for the 996. Does a SSK put any additional stress on the trany ?
Thanks for your advise.

Not being a smart ***, but what do you mean "drive normaly" ? I sometimes push my car to the best of my ability. And I know that it is only half of what it was built for. Yes... the 996 has it's pitfalls and definitely needs it's upgrades. This is not a track car and I don't beat the **** out of it. Heck.... I only drive it a couple times a year. My wife thinks its such a waste. I've owned this car since new and its time to upgrade some things to make it more enjoyable and start driving it more often.

Was thinking the same about cables. How will the Numeric feel with stock cables ? How are the adjustments in throw ? Just want to shorten a tad and of course tighten up the whole shifting shifting experience.

I went with the 997 SSK and Function-First solution. Shifter is rifle like now.

Explored that option also. On the fence with multiple options. Cup, Numeric, 997gt3, 997, 997ssk. I know at this point its a matter of of opinion and also function (race/recreational). The ssk worries me a little as I dont know if it may or may not put additional stress on the synchros. Would like to do it once and do it correct.

numeric would be my first choice if not for the 800 price tag and the fact i am perfectly happy with the 997ssk. the 997ssk is about a ( pick a number.. ) 33% improvement over stock though the shortening of the throw is only probably 15%. numeric if money doesn't matter. 997ssk if you just want to improve the shift throw and maintain a stock feel/part. it IS oem, after all.
