Apparent battery short curcuit????
I hope someone has an idea!!!! 2001 911 turbo 30,000, miles. Trickle charger flashed red but never turned green. When I tried to start car it was 100% dead everywhere. Not even a dash light anywhere. Driver door then would not close and latch to lift hood to replace battery is dead, as is engine hood latch. Are these latches electro mechanical?? I cant get in my own car!! Please let me know what I can do. Thanks

Apply power through the cigarette lighter plug, use this to pop a hatch NOT start the car, jump start it or replace battery. There's a power plug in the fuse box at the driver's left foot but I've never had that power point work for opening hatches.
Do as BLKMGK recommended. There is recent thread on this. Start by changing battery and checking connections.
to eliminate this kind of lockout in the future, many of us have re-routed the catch wire that sits behind the passenger fender liner so newly positioned, it's still tucked invisibly but easier to access, and lays flush in btw the headlamp and the bumper. then if you have a dead battery, all you'll need is a needlenose plier to snag and pull the catch wire to open the frunk.
usually one "lockout" is enough to investigate this "shortcut" further.

if the battery is fried and defective (not just dead) can i get hood open by applying power to cigarette lighter or control panel???
Yes I think so. My ground cable came completely off the battery and I was able to open mine this way!

If that doesn't work, you can pull the forward section of the wheel well liner on the passenger side front wheel then look forward towards the headlight (but a little more centerline) and find the emergency manual release. It's a small metal cable with a loop on the end. I used a flashlight and a coat hanger I bent up to do the trick. I've also since relocated the tool kit and jack behind the passenger seat on the floor since I had to do all that with the wheel in place since the socket to remove the lug nuts was in the closed frunk.

OP, if the trickle charger was put on a dead battery it will not bring it back. The trick is to apply a charge via jumping (the battery) to get the trickle charger working. That's how my Battery Tender works.
I was recently told (had not heard this before) that if your battery drops below 7.5 volts most newer chargers will not feed juice into it.
I did notice tiny clear tube behind battery with black insert elbow in it that was not connected to anything. Does anybody know what it is for?
acid battery drain tube. if you have a agm battery its not needed
