Albert Motorsport in Germany did my 996 Turbo engine rebuild, a huge loss
Sorry to hear this, Kai. I wish you the best of luck in finding the least painful solution.

Source of the rod - China - doesn't bother me so long as it was quality made. Yes, you can get quality parts from China and MANY of the aftermarket Domestic speed parts making a ton of power are made over there. Rods, cranks, pistons, even heads!
Seeing the rod snapped is pretty ugly but was that the cause or part of the aftermath? I'd certainly have someone take a close look at the ECU programming as some of the stuff out there is pure junk. A lesson for sure to get written estimates and set expectations. They really did run free with your pocketbook and it stinks to get held over a barrel like that. Happened to me once upon a time and a big name shop local to me will never see another dime as a result! Hopefully folks can come together and help you out

The owner of Albert Motorsport posted some replies in the thread you opened on a German Porsche-board (https://www.pff.de/porsche/index.php...#post154444922) - having heard both sides of the story (especially that Kai didn't let the shop check the car/engine after it failed) makes this imho less obvious...

Sorry to hear about this failure...
Regarding the snapped rod, can you post a picture of rod bearings and the other top half of the rod? reason I ask is that I snapped a rod on my Evo beacuse the big end of cyl 4 didnt had enough lubrication (drag slicks, min oil level and stock oil pan/pickup...) and the big end seized to the crank and then the rod broke very similar to yours. I had to knock the two half off the crank with a BIG hammer. The rod was blue and the rod bearing was very, very thin...
Just thinking if something similar have happed to you if there have been used wrong clearances on the rod bearing. You have dry sump, so I doubt the culprit is lack of oil pressure..
Does your rod bearing look ok?

On the German forum it seems that Albert Motorsport also tried to deny performing the ECU remap for the engine, before Kai provided copies of the invoice that included the ECU tuning.
I don't see what's wrong with having the goods inspected by a third party (especially in a sensitive case like this), and I don't see anything pointing towards the OP denying the shop the right to fix the broken engine after the inspection.

Would you take back the car to a shop that overcharged you, and that suggested an ECU replacement to solve the misfire that was present after the rebuild (which turned out just to be a variocam solenoid) - or would you rather have someone you trust have a look at the engine first (like it seems Kai did), to not have the shop automatically turn it in to the customers fault, and possibly getting rid of evidence on wrong-doing.

I'm in no way affiliated to any of the parties involved! I just stumbled across this thread and thought it might be worth noting, that there may be more than one side to this!
Lawyer up; this sounds like a fairly standard Commercial/Contract law dispute -- You paid for a service and received something that failed to live up to the agreed upon obligations, despite fulfilling your end of the agreement (payment). Fortuantely, it sounds like you've got a majority of the correspondence (detailing the agreement), invoices, and the subject matter of the litigation (the defective motor) all in your possession. My largest concern would be Albert pointing to your mechanic changing the Variocam solenoid as the source of the motor's failure.
Hopefully you'll be able to recover most, if not all, of the costs (maybe even attorneys fees) and source a new heart for your track toy. Best of luck.

Do you have the invoice as well?
The picture you're posting below is just the order ("Auftrag" is German for "order")...

Of course, most of the time the final bill will be bit more with these type of projects. There are always random extra costs involved, but around that price plus some more was my expectation.
Then the email arrives to my inbox. Here's the final page:

Over 19 000 EUR, not anywhere near my estimated 11 000 EUR!

It doesn't matter, what I want - if one wants a sealed engine to be replaced under warranty, one has to hand it over to the shop that built it.
He just did that 2 hrs ago, the owner of the shop has not replied yet.
I totally agree with you - but as far as I understood the owner the shop, Kai denied that.

Im calling this guy out. Considering he has three posts all of which are based on this thread, I would say he represents Albery Motorsport
