Here is the HID+high beam combo removed. It's really a beautiful design; the mounting points are simple ball/sockets (white plastic in the photo) that you can push on or off.

This unit is 6.5in deep at the top so there's plenty of depth for mounting and wiring a new lamp. Here is the adjusting motor and mount points.

There are a few options for lamps. There a large market for LED replacements of the main light on Harleys which claim to be 5.75 diameter. I really like that option because they have all sorts of designs with LED halo DRL's and built-it LED amber signals. But after some research there's just not enough room in our buckets for those. So now I'm leaning towards the retrofits for classic american cars.

Amazon Amazon

These are simple, have hi/low patterns, DOT approved, and are shallow enough to accept LED bulbs if desired.

They have a 144mm O.D. which is slightly smaller than the harley lights

Subscribed! I do like the look of the hid-projectors aka 991 look. But let's see where this goes I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like a fresh look on our headlamps

We can even do a LED plug& play kit in the Hella H4's to keep it worthy of high speed highway driving.

Its the turn signal that will be Achilles heel for this mod.

Check this source out. its been mine since the late 80's;

Nice find, and $10 lower than the amazon price for that kit.

As for turn signals i have some ideas. I used the foglight as the turn signal for a different project and it was a pretty cool effect using an amber LED H1 bulb and some re-wiring.

I don't think that's a solution for this project though

Hey guy's,
I have a contact over on Rennlist.com who is a expert in retrofitting/upgrading late model Porsche headlamp systems.
He is a wizard at Panamera lighting upgrades. So I reached our to him (Evan) to see if he could tackle the GT3RSR headlamp conversion project.

This may be the first time I've ever seen people trying to convert from HIDs back to halogens. It's true everything in life goes full circle.

I had the same thought.

Don't get me wrong, the RSR looks great. A lot of that is the height (low) and width (fenders) though.

Its fine for a Jeep- but completely the wrong look we are going after with RSR Lemans style lighting.

7" wont fit. We need 5 " just like the original RSR oem lighting. see Hella light below.

Modern lighting that mimics a speaker on a Porsche? Really?
