Will GT2 slave fix power steering res. whine?

I am getting the infamous P/S reservoir whine intermittently when it get hot out. I know the solution is to buy the updated reservoir for around 7-800 bucks. If I do the GT2 slave conversion, does that bypass the faulty check valve, thus not needing to update the PS res? If Im going to spend dough, Id rather upgrade instead of replace with factory parts.

Thanks,
Adam

I ended up buying the updated reservoir. Buy the gt2 part number, it's cheaper, and no lines to plug...

GT2 Slave…996 116 237 90 $130
GT2 Master…996 423 171 06 $65
GT2 Assist spring 996 423 081 18 $55
Brake fluid cap…996 355 119 01 $5
GT2 Hose…996 423 377 92 $105
GT2 Clutch fork…997 116 086 90 $180

Flush the old pentosin out really well. Any remnant will destroy the new parts. Fresh dot 4 and you are good to go.

For the install, make sure you check the clearance of the clutch fork in operation, sometimes you'll need to grind down the trans body a bit to make sure it doesn't hit.

Take the extra gear out of the ps pump also... since you aren't using it anymore.

I would spray a can of brake clean through the lines and then flush a bunch. I thought I flushed mine out really well the first time and it failed.

I was able to source a complete gt2 pump and reservoir yesterday for a steal. Only thing I am weary about is the Res part number.. 997-314-220-50. I couldnt figure out if the 997-314-920-50 is an updated number

tom153 is infamous around these parts
To answer your original question, yes, removing the power steering pump coupler eliminates the check valve whine from the old style reservoir, in my experience.

Thank you. Good info. Hopefully someone finds if useful in the future. I opted to swap out the ps pump and res to an OEM GT unit.
