Cleaning exhaust tips

So I just installed some new exhaust tips and my new speedtech 3" x-pipe. Like an idiot, I left the plastic wrapping on the tips while I installed it to avoid scratches. I started up the car and they insta-melted to the pipes. Any bright ideas on how to remove the scorched plastic off polished stainless?

By the way the exhaust sounds amazing, best move I've made with my car to date.

I personally would try acetone first before taking basically steel wool to the polished surface. May or may not work, but it may save you the trouble of trying to polish out fine scratches.

Also, maybe give Goo Gone a shot, it's mild solvent that may help.

When cold it's hard as a rock, but if I get it hot its soft and can be scraped off, but it melts the things I am using to scrape. I'll try some solvents this week. Need something that melts plastic...

Silicone has a pretty high melting point and is used for spatulas and other food prep scrapers. Maybe grab one from Wal-Mart or target before going the chemical route.

Could also use controlled localized heat via propane or mapp gas torch rather than turning the car on. Be careful obviously and don't flame your bumper!

Try MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). Get it at Lowes or Homo in the paint depth. I have also used brake fluid in the past.

I would just use #5 paste (white) with a metal polisher. They will look absolutely new when you are finished.
