Quick question: Locked key in the trunk (2002 996TT)...

Hey Guys,

I need some quick advice...

"I put the diamond in the coat. I PUT THE COAT ON HER."
-Caledon Hockley

So.. I pretty much did something similar tonight or at least it felt just as dumb. I put my keys in my coat. I PUT THE COAT IN MY TRUNK. My doors are locked. I don't have an extra key. Car is parked too far to the right side of my garage and I'm not able access the emergency hood release (which is supposed to be somewhere behind the right front wheel.) Triple A couldn't open the car either.

Question 1: Even if they were able to open it, will the alarm system disconnect the trunk release button?

Question 2: If I order a valet key at the dealer and open the car manually, will that disengage the alarm system?

Question 3: Any suggestions?

Answer to question 2: In the owners manual it is mention page 20, "unlocking the vehicle by using the key in the door lock and opening the door may activate the alarm system within 10 seconds."

I had a buddy do that at the track...only one key. We farted around for an hour looking for the wire release. Never did find it. Call to local mobile locksmith & had it open.

My car also only came with one key. I handle it and track it like my life depends on it.

This is what concerns me. If I order a valet key and the alarm comes on it may disable the trunk release button.. in which case I will still not be able to get my key from the trunk.

If I can get in the car is there a way I can disable the alarm without the original key? Will pushing the door lock button on the dash do it?

Guys a key fob is $150 and I just got mine programmed at the dealer for $81 out the door. Drink bud light instead of craft beer for a month and get yourself a new key.

To disarm the alarm you have to put your key in the ignition and turn it to position 1, which is ignition on. Remember you got 10 second to open the frunk and get the key in your coat to disarm the alarm! It should be sufficient.... Let me try that tomorrow morning with the valet key if you want.....

I didn't know it was only that. I ordered a Lexus key a few years back and I remember it ran me about $400+.

Yes if you could that would be greatly appreciated. Maybe I can get away with ordering just the valet key if it can disarm the alarm.

The dealer cuts the key as well as the programming? Did you get a different key fob?

I had a bad key fob with a good mechanical key so I only needed the fob. I ordered the fob from Suncoast online. I had the dealer program the new fob to the car and attached the mechanical key I already had. I believe you can have the dealer cut you a mechanical key or there are online vendors that can do it if you get the mechanical key code. I did not review the cost of that because I didn't need one.

Went to try the valet key and it open the door without triggering the alarm, you can also open the frunk . But if you put the valet key in the ignition and turn it trigger the alarm immediately. Hope this help....

Did a little experiment.
Opened window, locked car, reached in and opened door.
Alarm sounded immediately. Frunk did NOT open. Had to use fob to disarm then frunk would open. This means locksmith through door will not help. Seems the only way is through emergency lever, new coded key or valet. ( Did not try valet, just going by jpflip)
