Aem vs Syvecs
#31
Do you like to tune the car yourself or tinker with your car in general?
Do you need the logging capabilities of standalone?
Do you foresee yourself using secondary injector banks, staged fuel setups, etc...?
If none of the above? Just stick with the stock ECU. I swore to myself that I would never put another standalone on my car when I got the 996. I've been pleasantly surprised with how well the AEM just works. Car starts up every time and just goes. My dash doesnt light up like a christmas tree and my PSM even works (only yaw control obviously).

Syvecs is what I have had on my car for 3-4 years. It works brilliantly and I can use either gas or e85. I would recommend this for any car project whose goal is 4 digits but if not then I had really great results with my Protomotive tune on stock Ecu making around 900.

The problem I have with “tunes” is they are so expensive and you still have a 20 year old ecu that’s slow, has almost no failsafes and none of the “fun” features of a standalone. I’m being quoted, in the uk £3500 for the ecu then £340 per day to tune. Allowing for any little issues or extra sensors needed it’s £4500 done. Some people want £2500 for a tune!!! Crazy pace tax that I’m just not interested in paying

Yeah, I think you're right on not having done it on a turbo, but I think they've got it on a 996 GT3 based on talking with Charles when I was up there a couple weeks back.
Pay to play for sure. Who knows what I'll go with when the time comes. Maybe Cobb will be good enough since Im not going for anywhere near the power you and some of the other guys make. I'm a road course guy.

I am, its leaps above the aem V1 i had previously. Its the most well known and widely used honda system, so it makes sense for me, however, it has a very long learning curve and not what i would call user friendly. Had to buy a newer laptop to get it view my logs. Where certain parameters are tricky to find. Needs a lot of fine tune adjustments by someone with a lot more time on it than me.
My rating post was in reference to Porsche's, if im playing with that kinda money on a 996/7, im not skimping out. Ive heard too many horror stories with aem on several platforms, in the past and recently. we know supras have bugs, ive had a few ticks, a friends evo's brand new <500mile aem bricked.
For me, on a porsche, either a cobb can do the job, if not, skip to syvecs

I have syveccs on my car and I looked at Motec and it was going to be nearly 14k all in and that was just the ecu, sensors, wiring etc... it did not include tuning. I also looked at PROEfi, but there are far too many issues I've seen and their support isn't the best at times. A friend of mine knows a couple of the AEM engineers and while the infinity is nice, I wouldn't put it in a porsche. Syveccs had all of the features I wanted, offered great support, is what I ran on my GTR flawlessly, and was a crap load cheaper than the Motec. Also Syvecs has a bluetooth feature that I wanted to have because I didn't want to cut the dash or any of the interior to fit a map switching ****. I make great power, and beat the **** out of my car as often as I can. It fires right up, no matter the temperature, and runs like it should. End of the day though, you have to talk to the person tuning your car, because if they're not familiar with what you're using, it's a steep learning curve with syveccs.

Trust me. AEM bugs are not just car specific. Same issue that I have seen blow a supra could have easily happened to me. Now moved to a Cobb and it works great. Next step would probably be a Sycecs for me but happy with the Cobb for now.

Had the AEM infinity on my car it could not control the pulses coming into the Y pipe worth a damn was like a bucking bronco, AEM engineers fix was to extend the map Sensor 24" from the actual pipe or drastically reduce the rate at which the sensor read the actual pressure in the pipe. after 4 months of back n forth Tuner gave up yanked it off and put on stock ECU and Protomotive tuned it. Would not recommend the AEM for any car with big turbos.

Had nothing but troubles with the Aem. Multiple tuners and Aem sent a rep out and he couldn't get it to run correctly.
Changed systems, and car ran Great.
Not a big fan of Aem.

Just chiming in and won't mention any names on my bad experiences trying to complete my build. After years of trying to finish my build and many wasted $$$ and times, Syvecs, AIM Performance of South Plainfield, NJ, and Emre made it happen. Now I enjoy my toy without any issues and loving it!

i have learned the hard way as well. some of these systems "work great" on paper and specs looks great, feature lists look amazing etc. my advice to anyone doing a standalone is to go and find actual cars using it and talk to the owners live and get their feedback. the more the better.
