Slave cylinder clutch fork placement

Slave cylinder clutch fork placement
hi all,
i had installed a new slave cylinder on my 03 turbo only to find that after bleeding, the actuation rod was not seated on the clutch fork.
Tonight I unplugged all the hydraulic lines and bolts from the slave. How do I know If the rod is properly seated? I’ve looked at pictures and read plenty of forums and DIYs, but wonder if someone could give me any tips, personal experiences etc.
last thing I want to do is get it all hooked up only to realize it’s not actually seated.
Thanks!

Did you catch it before you stepped on the pedal and blew it out?
Try this, before you put it back in. Push the rod against something solid to get a feel for how much pressure it takes to push it in far enough to line up the slave mounting holes.
You could also pull the starter and see in through the mounting hole.

Hi guys,
thanks for the responses and advice. Taking the starter out solved the issue. I was able to feel the clutch fork. Man what a PITA!
Its all buttoned up, put back together and bled now.
I just realized that when unbolted my drive side axle (to get axis to the slave cylinder) I didn't mark its position. Is that an issue in terms of balancing? I know in other cars, you're supposed to mark the axle before unbolting it.

I never did mark them and no mention in the repair manual...It should not be an issue....
