+1..... had the same problem, rectified by replacing the latch.

I fixed one once by using part of a plastic pop bottle... The micro-switch was OK, but the rubber that covers it was totally worn off. I fabricated a new cover using a piece of the pop bottle - it worked like a charm. I just needed to get the thickness back. Total cost - $1 - and I got to drink the pop.

There's a thought, still have the old latch so will give that a try considering the cost. Will have a spare then.
