Seems entirely rational to buy a Turbo, fantastic car - and then spend 8 to 10 k in mods. Makes sense to me!
I’m imagining the extra hp and the growl of the Kline, hard to resist. And then of course the twisties with tighter suspension - heck yeah 😁
Any similar experiences out there?
Bought a 2004 turbo X50 cab in December 16, drove it until fall then pulled engine/trans. Pinned coolant nipples, replaced clutch, all hoses & seals, plugs & coils. On the road until fall, into the shop... Now the fun stuff...Torque solution motor mounts, toe links, dog bones, drop links, new Bilstein PSS10's,Elephant Racing camber plates, 997 shifter, Switzer catless exhaust. This winter will see a custom tune Cobb Accessport and maybe a set of aftermarket sway bars....will see how the bank account holds up :-)
I would not worry about mods or mileage, I would just enjoy the car for what it was designed for.....having fun! My 03 tt has almost 100k miles and my Cayenne S has a few scratches. Small price to pay for the amount of fun I have derived.
Installed Cobb stage 1. Fun. Kline and suspension next. 😁
I've now had my cab 911tts for 5 years. Since then, I've gone full stage 4 upgrade with EVMOS including Stage2 (their headers are a piece of art work)clutch and GT2 clutch master and slave cylinder(a must do!), plenum, suspension, and BBS wheels. It's a slippery slope indeed. But, I'm having a blast and the car is like a rocket.
I bought my ‘04 6t cab a couple months ago after having owned an ‘00 c2 for a month or so. Loved the c2 but learned about the 6t and off I went. Found this one, one owner, 29k miles. Well maintained, garage kept, babies. Perfect for what I was looking for.
I love the car, but it was stock so the sound, shifter, and suspension was lacking. I talked with Sam at By Design Auto. First thing was a stage 1 Cobb tune. Nice. Then following his advice: Kline exhaust, stage 2, MAFless tune, 997 shifter, trans mount, engine mounts, HR springs, toe links, spacers, and filter. This is how the car should have been set up stock!
The sound is perfect. Just the right growl. Mellow for easy driving, not too loud, but so good when playing even a little bit. No droning. The suspension is so so much better. Body roll all but gone. Perfect. Ride height a little lower, not too low. And it still rides comfortably, slightly stiffer, but in a very good way. The 997 shifter is nice. Tighter, not rubbery. And the additional performance with the tune is great.
I don’t plan to track the car, but I do enjoy “spirited” driving in the mountains (just wish they were closer!). Sam designed the perfect set up for me. Couldn’t be happier with the results! He was so easy to work. And he worked with and the local shop that did the work (European Performance in Raleigh NC). Great team effort.
I had a new sound system first thing. Haven’t turned it on - just listening to that sweet growl of the Kline exhaust is entertaining enough!
Am very tempted (have selected susp parts several times, just haven't completed order) but mine is a garage queen with only 14k miles. Trying to limited the mods slippery slope and keep mostly stock.

Do your suspension, keep all the parts you replace and enjoy the car. Down the road you can revert to stock or include the original parts with the sale of the vehicle. Big part of owning these things is driving them!
