R turbo boost problems

I have just spent five days in Germany, and my GF and I were out in the r turbo for a little while on saturday. She was actually the driver(dont worry she is superb, as i am not insured) however there was a problem that we have found in 5th gear whilst we were on the 'bahn.

So imagine, a clear stretch of autobahn, we slow to about 3,000rpm in 4th and then she nails it. Shifts perfectly at around 6800rpm, when she shifts however the boost goes from 1.1/1.2 to 1.4! I have never seen this before (i have only ever seen 1.3 on rare occasions in 6th gear at low rpms) When 5th is engaged boost is only at 0.6 bar.

So we slow down, and try 5th again, this time it comes back to 1.1 no problem and screams across the rpms. So we slow down and try again, this time the boost is limited to only 0.6 again!

I also noticed that the water temp was unusually low, a little below the 80 mark when it is normally a little above. However it moved back after about 5mins.

The weather was very cold too.

Any thoughts before we send it to ruf for a check up?

and here are some of the pics we took on saturday around the pfaffenhausen region, enjoy:

Adam, read Tristan's email, its pretty coherent. If you're still in Pfaff you might as well drop by and talk to HP, Conrad or Christian. My guess is the cold air, and the 0.6 bar probably means safe mode, but it is kind of odd for the ecu to go in and out of "safe mode" on the fly, usually it requires turning the car off and on again. Also just for safety's sake I would check the connections on the wastegate actuator's and check out the DV's, maybe something went loose or the DV is sticking. Tell Lisa I say hi, and I will see you all soon.

Schloss Mindelberg! Very cool shots

Any snow drifting partaken??? Maybe you overboosted from all the snow thrown into those intercooler ducts because of the front tyres always being at some crazy sideways angle! Hehehe

Yea that's the problem for sure... I had a very similar experience with my VW GTi before (It had an aftermarket turbo).

It was overboosting and I had to replace the water pump. You should get that checked out ASAP.

Good luck... I hope you don't have any big problems with your car.

Unlike Americans Europeans dont beleive in garage queens and winter/daily beaters. I was just talking to a friend from Switzerland over the weekend and he told me that he drives his TT all year round and alternates with his 360 every couple of days. His TT has seen alot of snow and has about 30,000KM on it.

Hi buddy,

Gunther,

That is really great, do you get to mindelheim often?

Roadbeef and i have second homes in pfaffenhausen, and I will be there around June definetly.

Tris (roadbeef) had better be as he has a return ticket to Germany and is coming to stay with me for as long as humanly possible

all the best

I say nay! They weren't bald in the rear until after Hockenheim (in June, long after the snow melted), when I had those five rediculous laps with Basti riding shotgun. I was sliding around Sachs Kurve from induced braking oversteer (since the Alpy [new nickname] has no limited slip), no doubt toasting the rear tyres just a wee bit!

Did I ever thank you for letting me drive around those few laps? If I didn't before, THANKS!!!

Basti begging on the side window to get out when we went past the pit straight was classic, I didn't even know he did that until after our ride was over.

Fun times noodle salad. I need to look into my return flight and figure prices for a new roundtrip to secure yet another visit in '07. Adam, figure sometime in the summer; If I recall correctly my current return date is like the 16th of August.... perfect weather for a trip to Nurby perhaps?????????

A boy can dream! hehehe whee i've had alot of coffee today

Regrading your boost issue. My car was doing the same thing, Turned out it was a tear in the boost line and would spike to 1.6 bar sometimes, others I didn't make more then .06.

Just my .02 cents
