DIY - Starter Remove/Install - with pictures

I like pictures and in all my searches I couldn't find a DIY that actually showed how to do this. So, here it is. This is a 1 out of 10 in terms of technical difficulty but an 8 in physical difficulty (unless you have a 5 year old with really thin arms and excellent upper body strength). You will never see the upper bolt until it falls out. You have to do all of the upper bolt work by feel from the end of a 10 inch extension. Other than that - piece of cake.

You will see that I have removed the counter-weights on the shifter - this was to reduce weight and lose the heavy feel when shifting. It is not necessary to do this to remove your starter.

I have included the Porsche instructions for reference.

Don't forget to take the paper cap off your new starter...

This should show you where the starter is located...
