2004 996TT in Black

Ok, my final decision is coming closer, this coming friday, I will visit the dealership and see what they would sell their 2004 996TT for. It has approximately 13500km on the odo. Some of the features that I noticed was the NAVI, the X50 upgrade, carbon fibre trims, black full leather, alum & chrome pkg, seat stitching deviating as well as the door/dash, carbon/alum shift/brake, black mats, sport seats, heated seats.... they are currently asking for $143000CDN. Give me some advice as to how much you guys would pay for this?.. Please note, it is in Canadian Dollar!..

colour - basalt black metallic

thanks!

Hi,

Yes, it is basalt black. I think the price if pretty fair considering it has X50 and it's 2004. However, is that car sold trough a porsche dealer ?

Which part of Canada are you from? Price will be different in east and west coat. If the car in Toronto porsche dealer, price is about right. There is another black one selling from T&C BMW without X50 and asking $140K. Remember if that car from porsche dealer, it should have 2 year per-own warranty after factory warranty expire and it cost dealer about $2500CAD.

Thanks for the reply guys!

Ray: sorry for asking a rookie question, but how would you know if it has an X50 upgrade or not?... cause the one that is listed in T&C, it indicates that it has the upgraded turbo boost... my assumption would be it has the x50 upgrade?... i'm probably totally wrong, but if you don't mind, help me out by explaining the difference?.. thanks Ray or anyone who wants to help me out!

Devious,

Why not buy one out of the US and save a bundle, that's what I did, picked up my 02' Seal Grey on Black TT last March, had 7800K on the clock and got it for $79,995.00 USD. The exchange rate is so good now you would do even better. I am in BC BTW

The money I save allowed me to bolt on the EVOMS GT700 kit plus some other bits.. IMO buying a regular TT and modding it with an EVO kit gives you way more bang for the buck unless you can get an X50 for a similar price as a regular TT.

Just a thought that's all.

Ben

that is a nice one, but it's a cabriolet one as well as automatic... and it's even more money then the one i'm interested in... damn... the only thing bad about buying a porsche from a non porsche dealer is that I cannot purchase a CPO afterwards... so i'm back to the drawing board... decisions decisions... argh...

I would not be too worried about getting an extended factory CPO warranty....these cars are very reliable with not too many issues....just make sure the common ones are repaired under warranty before it expires that's all.

I am a bit of a gear head so wrench on my own car all the time...I guess it's easy for me to say...right.

There are tons of cars to choose from in the US, importing it is easy, for a little bit more you could pick up a very nice GT2 or a heavily modded TT from one of the members on this board.

BigBadBen,

Thanks for your input... hmm.. so what type of maintenances should I expect from this vehicle?... it is a 2004, meaning it's the later model of the 996TT... should most bugs be fixed?... people do tell me it's an expensive car, thus a warranty is almost a no brainer... so i'm a little lost... should i negotiate for this 2004 that i really like, or should i wait for a porsche dealer to get one in?... and even if they do bring a 996TT, it might not have the options i'm looking for especially the x50 upgrade... argh...

I would offer them a silly amount and go from there...thats how I have always dealt with buying cars from dealers....they can always say no. You know what you want to pay for the car...stick with that!... but remember dealers up here want way more for Canadian cars than the equal cars in the US...just be prepared to walk, another one will always come up, with the options you want. Of course if you are dead set on buying a car up here then you may have more difficulty finding the same car with those options again.

Do the numbers for US cars (e-bay etc) and you will easily save some 15 to 20K plus the canadian taxes GST/PST will be based on the lower amount so you will be quids in! The duty is 6.5% BTW as it's a german car.

Seriously I would buy one from the US, the warranty is carried over to here in Canada anyway. Other than changing the oil etc the car should be issue free, mine was pretty much like that...come to think of it its been amazingly reliable..she will be back on the road next month..can't wait.

The easiler way to tell is see the sticker under the hood which list all options code, it should have X50 code there. If it don't have sticker there. The next thing you can check is the intercoolers. Put your hand in from the side vents of the rear bumper. If the intercooler core face feel smooth, that's a non-X50. X50 come with GT2 intercooler and it should feel un-smooth.

You can always import one from US, I know a dealer in TO who keep importing 996TT from US. One of my friend just bought one 2004 996TT silver cab for under $140Kcad. If you need contact, please let me know.

Thanks Ray and BigBadBen!

I'm still contemplating on the extended warranty whether I need it or not.... the car has approximately another two years left on it's factory warranty... would that be good enough? and I can't purchase a Porsche Approved warranty if bought at another dealership besides Porsche... sigh..
