First Time 996TT buyer needs input
Ok gang, looks like I may be pullin the trigger on a used 996TT sooner than expected. I wanted to find out from you guys what things I should look for on/in the cars. I'm already planning on having a PPI and compression test done, anything else I should inspect on an 02 and an 03 TT? Any advice, wisdom, and/or tips would be much appreciated!
Good luck and you will never regret it. I would recommend making sure if it is close to being out of warranty to make sure you do not have the infamous 2nd gear pop out. Seeing you had a "heavily modded" Supra...your in trouble now! Best of luck to you!
OK, what's the deal with guys named Martin jumping out of M3's and into Porsche TT's? J/K Buy the nicest car you can afford and if it already has mods you like/plan to do even better. For the PPI don't use a dealer near the owner and if possible grease the palm of the tech doing the inspection.

Can you tell me more about that 2nd gear pop out???
Hey Martin, it seems alot of early Turbos had some synchro problems in 2nd gear. It would happen when coasting down a hill in 2nd, and then you release the gas pedal...you would hear a klunk, and 2nd would pop out. It has been blamed on the B&M short shifter, but I had the problem prior to my B&M install. Where I live, I have a huge hill to go down, and I just put into 3rd and coast down...I still have not had mine taken care of yet. I will tell you it is annoying, and best not to try to put into 2nd after it happens...it grinds real bad.
I am sure alot of people can chime in about the 2nd gear issue...pretty common, and it seems that PCNA does not want to own up to it. Once it gets warmer here in MD, I will find out if they will help me(I have an extended service contract).
Enjoy and begin to empty your wallet out for mods!

But I got my undergrade degree from UCLA, so the official term for people like me is a BROJAN....
set aside about $10-15k to fix whatever the previous owner did. if you go into it thinking that way, you'll be a lot less pissed when you have to spend the money to get the car 'right'
