2004 upper console HVAC/single din

The car came with nav and bose. I installed an aftermarket 2din and it died. I dont like any of the current 2din units and decided to go more simple. I bought the Continental single din. So now I'm trying to go from that double din in the upper section to a HVAC controls + single din radio, i.e. to the more basic setup. I thought you could just swap the units around but something is missing.

I want the two storage bins in the lower console and they just pop in and out - so that's not an issue at all. I already have them on hand.

I am clearly missing some kind of mounting bracket inside the dash for the hvac to go up top, but I have been researching the heck out of it and am turning up blank. It seems everybody wants to go the other way and has skimped out on the particulars I am interested in.

I'd love some guidance on this.

I found these but I cant see how they'd help me

I thought I had to buy a different face cover for the HVAC when I moved it down. I would guess someone would be willing to sell you there old one, I prefer to keep mine just in case I convert back. I could try and dig it out and get a part number off the back if that helps?

I have the new face. I need info on how the unit mounts to the bracket in the upper console. There are no tabs up top for me to mount-to. The white holes of the hvac unit dont have corresponding holes in the black surround.

So I figured it out... need to replace the frame under the horseshoe.

#13 in diagram. Also need (2) of the #11, the item I linked above.

#13 is p/n 996-552-231-11-01C-OEM
#11 is p/n. 996-573-501-00-OEM

No thank you. I keep all my OE parts. I'm one of *those* guys. Lol

That bracket is like 60 bucks. Totally worth it to me...

Side by side comparo of the 2004 upper double din frame unit p/n 996.552.231.12

Vs the upper HVAC/single din combo frame p/n 996.552.231.11

Once I receive the additional little supports I'll be all good to finish her up!

Thanks! I've done a major install on this car. It came with Bose MOST, so I pulled all the stock stuff (stored it of course) installed amp, bypass harnesses, speakers, and this is my second head unit.

As I said above I used to be double in the upper, but I wanted to try single din for now since I dont like the current run of double din units on the market.

Nakamichi is about to make an american comeback after April I'm told so I may go back to a double din when those become available. Got spotty info from the NA rep out of Miami though. Still waiting to hear back on pricing.

i'm an '01 and only have DSP so a little easier of an install than yours.

i rolled the dice on the Alpine ilx-w650 due to it's small footprint and mini amp integration off the back... i'm also running another 4 channel amp in the stock location for the doors and rear... can i ask what speakers you used in the door? i keep reading about the band tang replacement but really want to squeeze a JL 5.25" woofer in there, just not sure of sound quality and mounting depth...

Yep, I remember having to dremel that one on the right, then not being happy with how that came out, then ordered the one on the left. Sorry I didn't remember the specifics and part numbers to help you out

I feel like this should be common knowledge but it's not. There was literally nothing out there that I could find on this. That's why I felt like I had to put it out there. Thank goodness for the explosion diagrams!!

Sorry it's too late for some (Hot Rod Guy), I tried. LOL but hopefully it helps out future enthusiasts. No sweat JS Bear!!

I'll be responding to kamlung when I get home today.

In the door I used Kicker DSC54. 5.25" 2-way. I picked them up at walmart after I already had the door apart, i wanted to be sure I could add them without cutting anything and I didnt want to buy million dollar speakers. I'm happy with them since June 2015. No problems. As I recall they went right in.

You can look up the specs on them and see if they're about the same size as the ones you want.

All the rest of my speakers are Polk Audio DBs
