Porsche put those on for a reason and thank you Rick. That's what I'm talking about. My connectors rock back and forth without those tangs. That is definitely not ideal. So glad for people like you who know at least what I'm talking about before making an uninformed comment. I have 4 good ones and 2 with no tabs at all. There is a huge difference in how the clips hold with and without them. I want them in place like Porsche engineers intended. I order new ones, and they arrive busted, so I'm going to find a way to make those 2 stay put and secure. I'm gonna place those on the "easy to reach" coil packs. Who has found a good way to keep them from wiggling without those tabs? Thanks guys. I tried to add rep points rick, but I already did from a prior post. haha. Thx bro.

Oh those brittle little ****s, 3 of those broke out of 6 coils broke on my third plug change, i change my plugs with my oil since it takes forever for it to drip. I dunno but im pretty sure beru designed them to break just like the plastic connector.

Be patient. You'll get there. All the aggravation will be forgotten once she's up and running again.

We are trying to help you, post pictures from the beginning next time. You don't need to make a post like this, I happen to know a few things, certainly not everything, and don't appreciate your response. Some of us were not visualizing your problem as described, doesn't mean we are uninformed. I would have to search, but I haven't seen many posts about this issue in the last 7-8 years and have not seen it personally.

Maybe try a different vendor, this really shouldn't be such a difficult task, and I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for you.

i think what the OP should have done was simply take the above mentioned advice and simply ordered the BERU ( OEM replacement ) coils that came with the 2 longer bolts just like *most* everyone else does.

they aren't any "newer" than any 997 part could be. in a decade of changing coils and plugs and regurgitating/reading/sharing the same threadbare info about them, i've never heard of anything like the problems the OP is experiencing. but it sure has brought this place alive again. i too, sure hope he gets it sorted.

Sorry BOOSTTT ! I don't mean to get off topic but at least we are posting. I've been visiting this site since I bought my car new in '03. What happened ? I remember reading 50 + new post a day. Every minute I got throughout the day I would jump on and read a new post. It was addicting ! It always had good topics with go info. So many always chiming in. Very informative, good humor and an occasional entertaining spit fight. Nowadays a post can sit days with no reply.
I wish it would come back alive ?

No. No. You guys are the reason this place exists. You guys are the reason we are not all "Stuff out of luck" when stuff happens. I'm thankful for all the input. Just get frustrated at times. Thanks for staying around and helping folks out. I'm grateful.

Yeah, I don't think they serve a major function - I had previously stated that I didn't remember if my coils even had those. (Now, I know they do)

Well......I'm back. I replaced my coils (3 were cracked) and I replaced my plugs, but they all looked very good after 10K. I can't boost over .3 or .4 without a sudden drop in power and some exhaust popping. She feels great up until she starts boosting. My tune is for 1.3 bar. I just parked her and disconnected the battery. I will clear the old codes for both both banks, lean, if I remember correctly. My upstream O2 sensors are brand new as well. Everything 'Looked" nice while replacing plugs and coils. I have never been in limp mode in my 996 Turbo, but wondering if she is in limp mode. I'll probably get the Durametric out and see what I can find tonight or tomorrow. I never got a compressor to start checking for leaks. Bummed.
