Sway bar setup after AWD->RWD Conversion
Sway bar setup after AWD->RWD Conversion
This winter I pulled off the front diff and added a LSD. I have a set of adjustable H&R sway bars setup in the middle. I assume I'm going to have some more oversteer with the loss of the FWD. I was planning on getting out on the track before I mess with anything, but with the lockdown I'm home and bored. Does anyone have good advice as to initial setup with the swap?
I have an Eibart rear only. I started in the lightest setting, hole nearest the end and it worked well. After a month or more I moved it to the second hole and it's been there for 2-3 years. I'm RWD, no diff, no need thus far. I'm about 1 3/4" lower both ends on KW V1 coilovers too and adj rear upper dog bones I fabbed up with rod ends. My alignment is set to work well on the street and maximize tire life rather than cornering prowess. I don't track but at times push pretty hard in the canyons. I road raced 750 and Open Superbike motorcycles for nearly a decade and finished in the top 10 most years. Just mentioned that to give you an idea, as "pushing pretty hard" really doesn't mean anything. I'm a motorcycle tech by trade and have set up race bikes for years. I do all my own chassis tuning on my car too and have a pretty good feel how to get what I want.
I'd recommend start in the lightest setting on your sways. Trial and error, get familiar with what you have before going stiffer. If you're not happy, stiffening the rear should decrease front end push. Keep stiffening till you get what you want.
