Mice and Wires do not go together

2020. What else can happen right? Well, yesterday I went to pick up some dinner and while I was idling for takeout, a CEL came on. Once at home, I noticed my right taillights were not working. My brakes and turn signal were though. Today, I scanned the codes, they were for both O2 sensors and a CANBUS code. I then pulled the right taillight, to check the bulbs, they looked fine. I then checked the fuses with a test light, they were ok too. Went back and started looking more, and then I saw it- exposed wiring, small pieces of foam and an acorn shell! A mouse! I have a hunting cam in my shop tonight to pick up any movement. I need to make sure he is gone before I start repairs.

Pics below. You can see the foam exposed wiring, shell and I was able to find a 2" section of the wiring nibbled away that is from the taillight wiring loom. Pulling off the rubber sheath behind the taillight, you can see the section of wiring that was chewed. There is at least 2 more wires that I have seen that have small pieces of copper exposed so I want to fix it all one time.
  1. What is the best way to fix this?
  2. Is it feasible to pull the loom (red arrow pointed to it) through to the rear of the backseat near the ECU to fix?
  3. If the HVAC hoses were removed and the engine lowered from the mounts, there looks a set of smaller hands could get in there. Does this loom have any slack so it could be pulled out more? Perhaps if it was disconnected from the ECU and given 1-2 feet but still within site. I just don't know how much slack is there or what other wiring is connected.
  4. I really don't want to drop the engine, but if that is the only way so be it. I'd like to explore other options though

Yikes, that sucks. Going to be really hard to access those wires without dropping the engine unfortunately. I would try first, but you will probably end up dropping it anyway.
