Not sure about sealing in the moisture...

I agree with Paul S, use the least aggressive approach first. Perhaps try removing any polishes and waxes (Dawn wash) to allow the suns light to shine without any protection. For a few days, it would do no harm. Compounding is just going to grind/cut down the clearcoat and could cause more harm in the long run. Save the compound or a trip to the bodyshop for the last resort.
