Softronic Just failed CA Smog!
Haha, after I posted that last comment, I looked at the YT comments and yeah, looks real. That's crazy though.
I can just picture trying to do this, getting pulled over for driving like this and trying to explain. That would be my luck.
I've never had any issues in the past so I think I'll just drive normally for a bit and see if it works on its own. If I have any trouble I might try it but don't expect to.

Start engine, idle cold for approx. 2 min, 10 secs.
Accelerate to 20-30 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 3 min, 15 secs.
Accelerate to 40-60 MPH, Maintain steady speed for approx 15 mins.
Decelerate and come to a stop. Idle in gear* for approx 5 mins.

Update…
I didn’t do any of that stuff. I went for a 20 or so minute drive yesterday and checked when I got home and all the ready statuses said pass so I tested it today and it passed.
relieved.
I’ll put the updated tune in when I get it and if I forget to remove the tune next time, hopefully it passes anyway!

softronic had my stock tune, I flashed back, and then they adjusted my tuned tune so that it won’t trigger in the future.
it’s dumb that they even test for this cause the question is really, does my car pass smog, but that’s life in CA.

I went thru the CA tests for 15 years in these cars and it continued to get more and more difficult and was literally one more reason to flee the state ( 2 cars needed to be smogged every other year )
CARB used to allow the car to pass if "2" functions were not in "ready" but last I checked it now is only acceptable for the "EVAP" to be "not ready" since they claim it might just be a faulty gas cap.
The last time couple years ago I had a nightmare of a time getting the cats to be ready but that's because I lived in canyons which made the "reset" protocol a nightmare as you have to strictly maintain the speeds as you drive.
I sure don't miss that bi annual struggle session with the state.

@benaslan ,Glad you were able to work it out with Softronic.
COBB works as well in CA as an alternative if anyone else wants a safe way to tune and restore back for smog when needed.

I've heard they do that in Massachusetts. Then they backed away from it I think? Not sure about Cali, they just started failing people for tunes here in Colorado, but it seems to be a small set of cars, the late model VW/Audi/Subarus. I've got to think that eventually it's going to be all tuned cars here, although so far if you reflash to your stock tune they're ok with it
Hello All,
I thought I would chime in quickly. Basically files that were made for customers had been fine for the cars in the past as CA was just checking them by the Ready status and a car by Fed standards could have any 4 out of 5 set. Then CA decided to change it to only the Tank Vent couldn't be in Ready status.... This is a bit odd as most all the HC produced is from fueling up cars and faulty tank vents evaporating fuel into the atmosphere yet it was harder to set the US made cars on that function, so go figure.
Then they changed by the standard on how they then check those on Ready status and it would even say that cars that had been not been flashed wouldn't pass at times.... Some of the software still checks cars like Porsche for things they dont have like EGR valves. This was as the US had one protocol and the EU another and they defaulted all cars to the US standard when they use to check all European/Asian cars by the one and all US made cars by the other. You can find this by checking a car with an older Porsche PIWIS tester compared to a newer OBD2 scanner.
Now going back full circle originally Porsche produced cars with a CVN (calibration verification number) in which CA was going to compare the numbers that the file had to what they had and if they matched then it wasn't tuned and if it didnt it was , off the top of my head was from around 2000-2008 since they didnt use it Porsche stopped. Now currently they have started to use those yet the cars made after those dates dont have them as Porsche stopped doing it.... Confusing... Yes.
So basically as they put these numbers in they can check for those CVN's for the years I mentioned on if Tuned or not and check the 4 out of 5 for Ready status with now tank vent being the only one not set. The cars made after that they can just check for Ready status. I hope this somewhat clears it up yet Im sure something else will be changed again.... This does not apply to any of the other states specifically as some check while others don't and even some states only check in certain cities and the CVN's were for CA and it goes on and on .
I hope everyone now has some knowledge on this 🤢
Best,
Scott

I'm not going to claim I understand much if any of that! but I did know that in CA the only "not ready" they still allow is for the "evap" which again is the gas cap flap deal thing ha. But pretty sure that's what "softronic Scott" just said?!?
But it's academic for me since the car now lives in a "no test" area ( thanks God ). But the one step that used to drive me even crazier than usual was the "cats not ready" = argh ). What a PITA that was, and to whoever said it's NBD to get all the monitors set to ready? Yes, it's easy if you're able to drive the reset uninterrupted for the entire protocol! Because if you mess up one stage of the reset, you need to begin anew.
Try that however if you live on top of a canyon/mountain and you have to dodge cars and roll stops to make it happen to get to all the way through to the final part = the "20 miles at 50 MPH" or whatever it is. I once had to park the car overnight at the bottom of the hill(s) to get a fresh start at 5 AM before traffic. It worked = Finally!
But now? Never again. Whew.

If you live in a Metro area its basically impossible to drive the reset cycle. Too much traffic, stop lights, etc.
Scott, so what you're saying is that the Porsche CVN's are available for smog stations from years 2000-2008?
