Softronic Just failed CA Smog!

All good, but their system saw that the parameters were different than stock and flagged it for modified software. I’ve had this pass on every smog check in the last like 8-10 years.

I’ll have to put it back for the check. Hope I can find my file.

just a heads up for anyone getting smog soon. Put your original tube back before you go.

Cali has increased smog check requirements and now looks for stock software and will flag you if file is modified. Most flashes save your original file. I was able to get mine after 10 years. Hope you have similar luck!

I empathize. Btw the manic CV restrictions put in place in 20/21 and my bi-annual smog test requirements on both "tuned" cars, I saw the writing on the wall. Moved to a non testing area and glad I did. I miss the beach and not much else. GL man.

I've always thought about putting the original back before smog but never needed to so totally forgot about it.

I found my old tune files and also contacted Softronic to see if there was an updated software I should use. Scott said they no longer recommend the old way and use a handheld (MyGenius) now so no computer and internet needed and he gave me a discount on the handheld to use with my files.

Received it today, but need to figure out how to get my original tune in this thing...I just emailed him.

Sure seems like it'll be easier to go back and forth this way once it's set up.

And hope I pass smog when I put it back!!!

Make sure all your readiness monitors are set before you go and get tested again. Getting them to set on our cars can be a real PITA.

Didn't even think about that. I'm rusty and haven't even been driving this. Will they get reset when I upload the original tune?

Do I need to just take some drives?

Thanks!

Yes, anytime you change the tune the readiness monitors reset. Which means they won't read "ready" for awhile. You'll need to do a few drive cycles and then check them to make sure they're set...

If you have a code reader or you have a bud with one you can check for readiness before you go to the smog shop. Most shops will put your car on a reader first to see if readiness is set. That way you don’t fail the test as they know it won’t pass and usually there is no charge. It is very true that getting readiness to set on these cars can be a real challenge. A simple act like changing a battery can cause a lack of readiness reset. Good luck!

I just uploaded the original tune and everything says ready except for fuel tank ventilation, but Scott said I need to drive the car for 30 miles for everything to clear before smogging so I’ll do that.

he also said he will “send a file after your done with the inspection I can send a file Tuned with emissions that should also pass in the future. Your problem was the age of the file that was tuned as the newer made ones since 2016 are ok as CA changed the way they are checked and not exactly because it was tuned. They just updated it to software that has been out for several years”.

Wow, you are lucky if after flashing back all are in "ready". The Evap if memory serves is one of the easiest to "reset" on its own.

So, All except "evap not ready" are in green/ok? Cats in ready and 02's etc? I was going to suggest you will need to to complete the "reset" jump through hoops exercise. It's the same as the BMW reset ( Ill do a search )

Here's s clip of the BMW sequence. Ours is the exact same.

But yeah drive around awhile first maybe it'll set! GL with it! I still wake up at times with a bad dream of being in Bakersfield and the smog guy has sent my "fail" to Sacto by computer and I wake up and shiver and remind myself whew. It was all just a bad dream.

I only watched half of it too! but aside from the joker behind the wheel doing the drive cycle reset in the rain, it appeared as "real" to me. That's what ya gotta do. Follow those ridiculous "step-by-step" instructions. It works!

Haha, after I posted that last comment, I looked at the YT comments and yeah, looks real. That's crazy though.

I can just picture trying to do this, getting pulled over for driving like this and trying to explain. That would be my luck.

I've never had any issues in the past so I think I'll just drive normally for a bit and see if it works on its own. If I have any trouble I might try it but don't expect to.
