Swaybar Advice Needed

I am installing the JIC coilovers next week, and am thinking about upgrading the swaybars (F&R). Since the search function still does not work, I have been having a hard time trying to sort out the optimal set-up. I'm putting the JIC's with the 8kg/12kg springs on and will use the car for "spirited canyon" drives and occasional track days (1-2/year). I have heard good things about the H&R bars, but was wondering if there were any other recommendations. Thanks.

You could go with the GT2/3 sway bars. I got away with installing the rear GT2/3 sway bar and the handling of the car improved. If you are also going with the front bar, you'll need curved drop links. I have no idea if JIC supply these or not. Hope Ruiner gets to see this thread and reply. He's the resident JIC expert.

Scott,

I have the JIC 9kg/12kg with H&R front and rear sway bars. The H&R's really enhance the handling of the car dramatically with the JIC's. The only issue is that with the current droplinks on the JIC's, you can't set the H&R's to their stiffest setting in the rear. However, according to JIC, this problem may be solved shortly as they are finalizing their new droplink design (which is apparently similar to the stock design). Have you considered going to 9kg instead of 8kg in the front? It's a little stiff for road use, but the handling is awesome.

BTW, hope you're enjoying the wing. I heard from Mike that they look great. Once again, thanks for your help with the seats!

Marty, you have spend alot of money to totally dial out understeer from this platform. I only had a GT3 rear sway bar, set to the stiffest setting and it helped with the understeer. Try pm'ing Cary Eisenlohr(sp?) as he can help you much more than I ever could. Try Joe Weinstein as well as his 996 turbo was set-up by Cary.

Woodster:

I managed to dial out understeer in 90% of the situations (intentionally not 100%, at least for road use) by fitting the GT2 sway bar, a more agressive geometry (increased front camber to -1º20 and reduced toe in) and using 235's on the front. All of this with Row suspension though...

Hmm interesting, Where did you get the GT2/3 sway bar from?? And do peopel recommend an H+R and so on over an OEM GT2/3 swaybar??

ILLM3,

I got the GT2 rear sway bar from Gert at Carnewall where they have it as an upgrade for the TT but the good thing is you can get it from any OPC and its cheaper than an H&R kit. Actually all you need when dialing out understeer is a stiffer rear sway bar or...a softer front sway (but also increasing body roll) so the GT2 rear sway is a popular solution for those who don't care about front sway adjustability...

P.S. Please don't forget to check the part number for the harness....

I have the GT3 swaybars, JIC suspension and ScarGO curved drop links. The setup works well. Hard to find the curved drop links at the time though.

I am looking for new suspension as well. I have ruled out the PSS9's and really was going with the Motons and rear sway bar, are JIC's better?? Really interested mostly for track driving, dont care about street ride.

Im under the impression that Moton's if you have the money are THE BEST, but the JIC Cross 8/12kg setup im hearing is an insane suspension

If you don't want to fanny about "trying" to get drop links stick to the H&Rs. They just plain work. I like the GT3 sway bars and the extra levels of adjustments they offer but try getting a set of JICs, PSS9s and/or Motons to work with either the stock and/or provided drop links Not the right geometry unless they curved like the ones I have on my car (TRG) or Zippys.

Set of PSS9's vs JIC's vs Motons, large price difference? If so is there large enough performance difference to justify it?

thanks illM3!!!

I've done a lot of research before deciding to go with the JIC's. For a high performance street and occassional track car (within a certain budget) they were the best choice for me, especially compared to the PSS9s. If money is no object, it is hard to argue with the Motons. However, if I wanted a full track set-up, I would probably have purchased a used Cup car and had a real race car for track days.

Thanks Sharky for the advice. I think I'll try the H&R rear only at first and see how it "tunes out" the understeer. Or, do you think I'm better off putting both on at the same time while I'm at it?

Tom.. you go to the track. Don't do the PSS9s. You'll be disapointed. The spring rates are too low. If you can swing it do the moton kit and that way you can also adjust the compression and rebound for different tracks, streets and whatnot. Otherwise the JIC's are a pretty cheap alternative. Take a look at my review of them from today...
