This is a slight thread hijack, but Chad, why the small hot side? I guess you are more concerned with lag/drivability, even though you (from what I've read) make the most power with the 996TT that I know of, or that I believe at least. Do you plan on going bigger hotside? Maybe with the increase in fuel and air you will still have virtually no lag with a k24 hotside.

I still like Garrett ball bearing turbos. And whatever people may say about them, they do their job well.

Hamann,

I have ball bearings. I also have the K16 housing.

Frosty,

Kevin is correct about lag and other attributes of the K16. With the correct A/R ratio the K16 can be deadly quick. This coupled with my gearing/tires lends to a 0-60 time that is probably over a second faster than any 996tt out there. As for "most power," with NOS probably. Without, I make torque and HP over 1200 rpm's sooner than Budman. From the best I can figure he is making about seventeen more HP and ten foot pounds of torque more than I am without NOS. However it comes on much later and does not last anywhere near the same duration. I don't know of any 996tt that would stay with me to 185 mph. Just about all of them would over take me given enough straight away.

Can't wait for the day you bring your rig to a show-down! As each day passes, the competition seems to be getting tougher!

Here's a more realistic turbo 'upsizing" for those on the edge (you know who you are).

Isn't that great! That is what happens when you share information and it becomes commonplace. It wasn't too years ago 500 rwhp for a 996tt was elusive. Most everyone has focused on maximum hp. Not a balanced motor as eveidenced by the on the spot reports being conveyed from the recent shootout. As we saw in the shootout, the balanced and reliable motor won the acceleration contest. That was not surprising to me although I believe it was to many others. Such things as average hp and torque over the usable rpm range wins acceleration contests. As for reliability, blown induction air joints is nothing new. My own experience took over three months and thousands of dollars to rectify the same problem. I know the same held true with the Tyson/Protomotive car.

What I really found shamefull is the lack of attention given to the winner of the track contest. The winning car here was the real balanced car. For that track set up it had the best power, suspension, braking and reliability. It kind of reminds me of the old beach muscle men. Great muscles to look at, but what else are they good for. Still many, many people wanted to look like them. I guess to each their own, but I want my car to be balanced like the one that won the track event.

Budman, chasing me is like chasing a ghost. I am sure I will win some and lose others. I do it for the fun of it. When it isn't fun I don't do it and I really don't care what anyone else thinks. I didn't build my car for anyone else I built it for myself. If it get's beat I learn and make changes if I so chose. If the one who wants to compare his car against mine isn't interested in freely exchanging information then I have no interest in running period. To me that is part of the fun. Like I said, if it isn't fun, then I have no interest. That's just me and no one says you have to agree.

Actually Chad you need to cool your jets because I was not the one who said:

It was Zippy, you need to scroll back up this thread and you will see that.

By the way I have no problems whatsoever of giving credit where credit is due. I was one of the first to Congratulate Hamman on winning the quarter mile competition and Cargraphic did an awesome job on the track.

My car is still going through growing pains and will eventually be a car to reckon with. I appreciate all the things you have shared with us to this point but it is a shame you didn't compete with the rest of us.

Talk is cheap let's see what your car can really do!

As far as sharing info ask away and I will share anything I know which is not much!

Budman, with that attitude I guess you will never get a chance to find out if it is the real thing or cheap talk. I won't miss any sleep over it. If you want another good example of people to share information, you have no farther to look than Sharkster's recent educational posts. I'm really sorry if you "really don't know much" about all that work someone did to your car. I gave up several weeks ago regarding learning anything about it. I simply lost interest.

Regarding crediting you where Zippy should have been credited, I owe you an apology. However, your above quote only reinforces my previous beliefs. You are not the first one who has used this tactic in an attempt to get me to prove something. It simply doesn't work.

What is the difference between the GT3 crank and the turbo crank?

Sharkster,

I'm going back over a year. The costs were the same, about $900. I believe the difference is the GT3R crank runs without the need of a dampener.
