When my 996 TT X-50 first gave me that error message, I took it to Dan Aspesi at the Speed Gallery. Who at the time was helping another customer, though was able to diagnose the problem and quote me a price to fix it while just walking by my car. I probably was looking at him incredulously, so he came back a moment later, lifted the rear lid and ran his finger over the surface of one of the pistons, displaying the leaking hydraulic fluid. Unfortunately the problem is that common with the wing lifts. I would recommend that you read the threads in this forum regarding the rear wing. I'm currently using Dave Cooper's Rennkit lifts, it's worked well for me over the years.
Thank you. In my case, there is no fluid leakeage at all. Spolier goes up and down manually w/o a problem. So I am thinking the following: 1) one of the relays are bad or 2) the microswitch is bad. Will replace the relays first, and then the switch. If that does not solve it, then going the way of the electrict lifts.
Check the microswitches. The other issue is that very minor fluid leakage may go undetected. If the right side is low on fluid the upper microswitch will not engage.
So here is what I discovered today. I removed the hardtop which I needed as part of the strut replacement. I started to drive, hit the 76+ mph and got the error light. The spoiler was up as it should. However, reducing speed did not lowered the spoiler automatically, but could with the switch. So I am scraching my head.
As I already checked for leaks (none), cleaned the micro switches. Next is to replace relays and see.
If you got the warning at 75 MPH, then the top microswitch was not activated, meaning the system is slightly low in fluid, or the gray wire on the right ram (top switch) did not send the signal back to the dash cluster ECU. You may want to fill and bleed the system. There are several procedures out there. One guy claims removing the lid is the easiest way. I'm not so sure...
I believe you are right. I came back after lunch from my ride and while driving, I could see the spoiler up. Got home and did not check anything. Just went out to walk my four legged kids and saw this. The left side was lower than the right. I might have to switch to electrics if I cannot find a way to refill.
