Front Plate Mount

OK, this is not a debate about whether to mount one; i think they look like ****. But, i've been stopped 3 times in as many weeks for my failure to have one mounted in front; out of frustration, i tried to use the kit that came with the car (a GT-2) which is a shameful piece of plastic ****. Any recommendations for a higher quality way to mount the front plate (other than move to a State which does not require it)? TIA!

I think you could send it to Bumper Plugs (he is a sponser) and he might be able to paint it to match.

Its a tough call, no front plates on the cars here, they also arent used as everyday cars and arent parked very often in places that would be high profile ticket spots, I have been stopped for not having the plate and just talked my way out of the tickets and asked for a warning, they look horrible on the front of these cars.

I am in NY. I agree they look terrible and currently have the bumper plugs installed in matching paint color. But, while i long ago adopted the "no big deal" philosophy for all my exotics, i have been stopped repeatedly of late, and, aside from having to take the 1/2 hour break each time to "chat" with the constabulary about why (I used to explain, with the F-cars, that it was "on order" from Italy with a shrug), its just a huge pain in the *** to keep getting stopped. So, i will mount a front plate, and need to find a better way to do it than the kit provided by the mfr.

What's wrong with the plate mount??? It's painted to match, at least on the GT3 and you can put a porsche license plate frame around it in black, chrome, brushed stainless, carbon fiber...The plate mount plate, if done correctly, will not scratch the bumper. I used electrical tape, placed on the bumper where the plate back mounting area makes contact with the car so that any friction/rubbing of the plate back on the bumper will NOT make direct contact with the paint on the bumper....It would rub against the tape...Works great for me....

The bracket that Porsche provides is fine, any other makeshift way that you design will just look worse and out of place, just use the one provided and you will just adjust to it I guess.

My 2002 came with black. I called dealer with the part number and they said it came only in black. (that was 6 mos ago). Since decided not to put it on. I just carry it with me in the car Will offer "broken piece, waiting for part" story if I'm stopped. Hasn't happened yet!

Not to be compulsive, but to answer your questions about what's wrong with the kit supplied by the mfr.: there are two pliant plastic "chocks" (for lack of a better word), marked left and right, which appear to conform on one side to the shape of the bumper. These act as a buffer between the bumper and the plate frame, which is made from cheap, black plastic. When everything is aligned, and the screws put thru the plate frame into the chocks and tightened causing the expansion thingies on the chocks to open and hold the whole thing to the bumper, the thing doesn't really line up properly. Its like the space between the mounting holes in the license frame and the space between the chocks is a little "off," putting some stress on the chocks and pulling them inward. I could screw a naked license plate onto the plate frame. I am reluctant to add an aftermarket frame to that, because the whole thing looks so flimsy i'm afraid it will get blown off at any real speed. In addition to looking like a cheap piece of plastic. And, no, it was not painted body color, which shouldn't matter if it is largely concealed by the plate when mounted. Maybe i am obsessing too much...
