Clutch Slip??

Hey guys how's it going. Car has been a complete animal after my wastegate upgrade and FVD race pipes.. Well i had some race gas mixed in the tank today, decided to go out for a nice ride.

Well doing hard driving, 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd taking it to redline 7100 or so, lets say 7k, car is fine. Clutch grabs hard from 1st to 2nd and in any gear, but i noticed that when i dont want to take it to redline and i want to keep up the turbo spool, i will short shift extremely fast, lets say shifting 3rd to 4th at like 5500-6k my car will maintain that same constant speed/or feels and boosting like 1.1-1.2 and its like, you dont hear revving it just feels like the belts are spinning or somethign and your not accelerating so much really, or what it really feels like is tires spinning then it grabbing and pulling hard, its so weird. Only happens when i shift fast and a "short shift" not taking it to redline, i have no idea what in the hell it could be?! I dont smell burnt clutch or anything, its so weird!

Thanks guys, Martin.

That is the clutch. The hotter it gets the worse it will become. If you granny shift it the slipping will not occur or if in 1st, 2nd gear where there is little load. You also may not smell it for that short of a time. Stay in it and you will!

Its just weird though, 1st to 2nd when you bang intot he gear hard, you would think it would be slipping, or from 2nd to 3rd or the rest fof the gears revving out to redline! But it happens when i shift real fast with no lag but before redline, its is the weirdest thing, how much longer do you think i have out of it?!

Alright, lets back up. If the revs go up wihtout it pulling the clutch is bad. If you are hearing wind noise and the car is boosting then you have a boost leak.

FWIW there is not enough load in 1st and second to create full boost, if it does it is a blip on the screen. They are short gears and it is fast. Load is less and therefore slipping will be as well. When I popped mine it woudl not slip in 1, 2nd. Very common.

Hmm interesting, i wonder if its a boost leak, it lasts for like 2 seconds, if i let off alittle then hit throttle it pulls hard still, it iwll never slip while in a gear, just when shiftign extremely fast into the gear before redline, it really is weird. I bet it is my clutch, 32k miles and still factory, blah oh well

Thanks!

When they just start to go it shows up on the speed shifts then gets worse from there. 32K is about right for these cars believe it or not.

Ahhhh interesting, i guess your right thinking back to what i was doing, it was after a nice little high speed run, which would mean the clutch was getting really warmed up haha.. What clutch do you recommend , thing is maybe i'll hold off, i know for sure i'll be doing a stg 4+ kit :/

sounds like clutch from your 1st description. if you short-shift before redline on 2-3rd, you will be shifting into peak torque (as opposed to shifting @ redline where you miss it.)

go w/ the Sachs Stage 2 2/ lightweight flywheel - it makes a pretty good difference. and it should be good up to stage 4 or so.

Oh it rattles, no doubt. There are trade offs with all the clutches and combos. I personally have run over 7 different versions in mine. I am picky. It is also very subjective what people will tolerate and what they will not. Choose carefully.
