Installing Dash Trim & Vents

In preparation for the aluminum dash trim and vents I ordered, does anyone have any DIYS instructions for installing these items? I heard it's not easy, but I'd prefer not to use my dealer anymore unless I have to. I have an independent shop that will be helping me. Any advice or instructions would be greatly appreciated.

If you're in SoCal, there are a lot of aftermarket shops that I would trust to do the job for you. I'd hate to chance scratching something or breaking a plastic tab that would make one of the parts fitment a little askew.

It seems that not all here are DIY-guys...and I understand it completely. If one's busy and the choice is between a nice drive or some part installation I would choose the first one without a doubt!
But still I think it's quite nice to work on a 996TT...the car's a "different" super car in this aspect too You can drive it around the year in all kinds of weather and even mod it yourself so it suits your style better...great!
(but of course Porsche isn't superior in every way to others...I'm not that stupid! )

Any way, renntech.org has some useful information, check this link for example, http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=392
Hope it helps a bit!

Well, worst case scenario, I'm drving down for the Player's Run in the begining of June. I may have some free time in the morning of Tuesday, June 6th. Maybe I can swing by somewhere. I need to check in at the Mondrian at 5pm or so. How long does it take to have one of these people install them and what's an estimate cost? I would be open to recommendations in the West LA area, near West Hollywood. Nevertheless, my first choice would be to get it done before I leave so I have one less thing to worry about.

I'll look at at RennTech. Thanks for the idea. I agree, i'd rather pay someone.

How far away is SharkWorks from West Hollywood? Do they do that sort of work. I'm quite ****/OCD so I'm looking for quality work... (probably didn't need to add that)

Very easy do-it-yourself. If any of that stuff came from us, instructions are in the package. Looks like the first pic is from our site anyway.

If not, email me.

Cool. I figured you'd probably have instructions with my order, but I wanted to get a head start, just in case. Though, it now appears I should have ordered these things a month ago if I wanted them for the Player's Run. Oh, well.

I concur. I'm dreading the trim install. The inquires are to figure what direction to take for installation assistance and if I have any chance of fitting in the installation in time.

Because of the value of my leather dash, I may break down and use the dealer at extortion prices, but even they have managed to damage my interior in the past.

Once I get my hands on the trim, I'll weigh my options. If it turns out to be something I can tackle myself in a day at my buddy's shop, I may go that route. If I can find a top notch installer that will give me a great rate, I'll try to make that work as well.

Thanks for the image. I printed it out.

glpdx; the passenger side vent is a piece of cake; the drivers side is a bit more complicated. I recieved some instructional help from the Porsche Doc at Imagine. There may be instructions in the archives. Just be a little careful when wriggling them out of the dash.....

I've done it myself (twice now!) and it is a doable job.

P.S. My aftermarket carbon fiber delaminated on the vent necessitating my change back to stock.
