Garage project - you guys made me do it!

Well, all these photos of clean garages inspired me to finally paint mine. The previous owners (we bought the house about a year and a half ago) decided it would be 'fun' to get one of each basic color in the Ralph Lauren paint pallette and paint each cupboard in the garage a different color! They also painted the walls a sort of dark red, but that was covered up with white paint at the bequest of the realtor who was listing their house, so I never got to see it.

They put in a nice epoxy floor, so that's a step in the right direction.

Anyway, I'm not sure why I waited this long to do it (couldn't find the time, actually, and ended up doing it on New Year's Eve and Day, being the crazy party animal that I am...) but here are some photos even though it is not quite finished.

imagine how many coats of white paint it took to cover those bold basic colors?? what a nightmare.

I'm keeping some yellow trim areas to match the Porsche logos and such, and I want to get some posters to dress it up a bit. Any suggestions would be welcome. I have to keep my garbage and recycling cans in there, and a spare washer and dryer for one of our rental condos because the tenant had her own set, but it's still quite roomy, and LOTS of cabinets...

I really have to get a look at mine. I already have a lift but it's a mess. Lookin good!

I hope you took a nice deduction when you bought the house for such bad taste on the original paint.

Yes, we took the elusive 'romper room' deduction - got a nice little break on that one.

As soon as it warms up a bit and stops raining (yes, here in S. Cal!) I'll take all the cars out and mop the floor. Have to wait for the posters to come in, but I'll be able to setup my tools and work area in the meantime.

Very nice improvement. How many coats did it take to cover all those dark pigmented sections? I can only imagine how sore your arms must from painting.

3 thick coats...latex semi-gloss. Maybe THAT'S why I waited so long...

more pics below:

(ordered some 'Park Smart' door bumpers (yellow) to install on the beam and wall, and some nice turbo posters are on the way, ready to be framed. I might stick a desk in there with one of our computers too, thanks to jcramair's garage...

(p.s. - the Park Smart parking mat is for my wife - she's all over the place when she parks her car - sometimes the garage door can't close, sometimes she parks right up to the door, sometimes so far to the right that the passenger door won't open...these things work GREAT for those of you who have significant others who are not that skilled at consistent parking)

black floor? I've got epoxy down there, and it's pretty nice, although I am now considering the white/black tiles like jc has. I want to find a yellow tool chest, but am not having much luck - anyone have any leads?

OK, now you have to work on the bikes to go with your cars. First, that old Gary Fisher has to go. Then that road bike needs to be replaced with a Colnago (I like and have the CT-1, combo Titanium and carbon fiber). In CA, a triple is not a bad option with the mountains. So a Dura Ace or Campy setup would be acceptable.

Garage looks much nicer...

Come on, as long as you are redecorating.....

viperbob - I used to race, but haven't ridden my bikes seriously in about 10 years, hence the ancient gear. The Pinarello was such an awesome bike 'back in the day'. Campy C-record and Dura-Ace combo (c-record crank - the most beautiful crank ever made), sweet ride...

The Gary Fisher was just a beater - I'm thinking of throwing them out or putting them in the attic.
