So would an exhaust cutout, but at an extreme fraction of the price. www.quicktimeperformance.com makes some fantastic valves.

I love exhaust cutouts, think its an amazing mod. Have it loud with some actual exhaust note wide open and max gains, or quiet exhaust. I was going to do that to my turbo, but from the heat the valves seize up, happened to 2 turbo's that my shop did!

It depends upon the quality of the valve. I have personally seen a Kreis-Seig valve (vacuum operated, of course) seize up as a result of heat, but the owner of QTP claims he hasnt yet had that happen to one of his valves; I think a valves life-span is dependent upon materials used and clearancing between the butterfly and the surrounding shroud.

Hmm interesting! I might give it a try, my shop would do it for cheap since im a sponsored car, they just said the valves on the turbo's they've done seized up because of all of the heat, i'll ask them which valves they used! Thanks.

They do have some quality products. They are local to me, so I even went and saw some installs they have on shop cars (Camaro, WRX, Silverado, etc)...all seemed to be working flawlessly.

I would probably just buy a valve (not the valve attached to the piping) for a 996 application and then have a local exhaust/custom shop install the valve with a piece of stainless. From what I have seen is involved in the install (on E46 M3s in particular) the shops shouldnt charge more than $35-$50 for the piping and welding. Best of luck.

YIKES! On the M3s I have seen them installed on the valve was simply welded on to the section 2 pipe (pipe directly before the muffler) in a matter of minutes. This cost, of course, didnt include running the wires up into the cockpit to the momentary switch for opening and closing the valve, but thats easily done in an hour or so in your driveway. (or if you wanted to pay, Im sure a stereo shop could do the wiring for it in an hour or so)

For a 996, you would need 2 valves (for both banks) which would be $250, + the module they sell to tie the two valves together so they would open at the same time via one switch, + install.

Maybe my estimate was a bit low...but any more than $500 for a completely installed and wired system would be taking it in the shorts.

I now say that the RWD conversion is probably the best bank for the buck mod out there...

Yea 500-600 sounds like a good deal or estimate! I think the valves they were using were like 250 or so a piece, that's probably why!

Sway bars, Coil overs, Wider GT2 size wheels and some FAT RA1 Racing compound rubber will give you a bigger "jump" than your ECU Flash.

there are many good upgrade suggestions above. depends on what YOU are looking for?? for your car the best thing to do is suspension upgrade.
but if you are looking for hp and torque you will need to upgrade turbos.
