PSS9's and Camber Plates

Hi; I'm a new guy. I've been following along for a while and really enjoying all the banter................. and I've also picked up some good info along the way! So far all I've done to my '02 996TT is a Europipe (loud) exhaust, a B&M shift kit, K&N airfilter and Chromed the Turbo wheels. The car is 95% intended for street use. My next step is to upgrade the suspension. I plan on installing PSS9's to lower the car and improve handling. My question is whether camber plates are a good addition? By the way we hit 73 here today!

I also wanted to go the camber plate route, but I intended to drive to the tack, dial in the camber I wanted, finshes the event, move the camber plates back and drive home. Everyone told me you really can't do it. The positions are not repeatable and too much of the rest of the geometry changes (toe, ...).

Thanks. I went for the PSS9's, no camber plates. Visited EVO's new shop and they're installing on Monday. I going to lower 1.25" in front and .75" in back. The new shop looks like it'll be great when everything get's settled in.

If you aren't going to track your car very much and are conservative when you do it, the stock mounts are fine.

Some points of information ...The stock mounts have very soft mounting screws that are easily damaged if you overtighten and the mount will move if you have an agricultural experience at the track. The other possibility if you go off-track is that the rubber housing can break. If this happens and you continue to drive on it, you risk the top of the shock putting dents in your hood from the inside out. The other issue is the range of camber possible is much more limited with the stock mounts than with camber plates.

Anybody know if the GT2 mounts will work on a twin turbo? If so, I will probably go with them, if not, I am going with camber plates as I am certifiably addicted to the track.

Bob, the Gt2 "mounts" are the same as GT3 cup camber plates which means the are designed for 2WD uprights. The range is the same because it is limited by the slots on your chassis. If you don't mind cutting on it you can get more or less camber that way. However, the GT2 mounts have two different bolt patterns, one is stock location and the other pattern puts about 2 more degrees of negative. You have to chose which pattern you want at the time of installation and if you change it back you have to take it all apart again. AWD car's have different uprights that put a strong angle in the strut so if you use the GT2 mounts they will go into bind if you don't build an adaptor to changed the angle where they bolt in up top.

Cary, I assume that this adapter would be a wedge of some sort, correct?

Chad, Are you using the GT2 mounts on your car?

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, it would have to be a wedge. The only problem with doing it that way is you will loose some travel.

Chad, if your car has factory GT2 camber plates with no mod's, I can assure you that at some point you have binding. I would be curious about the solution you've used. Do you have any pics?

Cary,

I didn't say "no mods." I have requested Rob at S Car Go to take complete pics so I can post and explain what was done.

Chad, hopefully I didn't come off wrong there. I figured you'd done something, I just didn't want someone to try and bolt them on directly without addressing that issue
