Quote: Thanks WIllcoxmd if there's anything I can do let me know In terms of hoses, I'd go with black too just to keep it "stealthy"...
when you are behind a 996tt with red evo hoses on the road, it looks like the car is sporting red mudflaps!

Hehe true dat. When we do them here in California we usually go with black because of the smog thing

Quote: Wow looks like some real work to rebuilt the engine. Gives me new respect for you guys putting all that spaghetti back in!
Thanks for the kind words Ari. The spaghetti is one thing but it's the 700HP sauce that makes it taste good

I'll send you a hydrospanner and you'll be able to at least do some damage

what pistons are you using, bore/compression/make? I see the valve reliefs.

I think the sleeves are alum nikacil (sp) anyone using iron sleeves? Not sure if you would even need them. I see there is alot of "meat" on the sleeves, what is max bore you have used sucessfully. Have you messed with the stroke of the engine as well? I know this will effect balance of the engine and its ability to reve as freely.

I honestly don't know alot about these engines and I am just curious to what would work. Each situation is different by different end user needs and wants for there car. I assume metal head gaskets and ARP or sim studs and bolts have been used. Are there any decent cams for turbo 996? I am also interested in seeing if anyone has messed with 3 or 5 axis valve jobs or even oversized valves. I also wonder is eibach or another make would make stronger dual valve springs and Ti retainers to increase the revs even more.

Is the Motronic dynamic enough to adjust fuel and ingnition timing, or what EFI system is out there that has been proven on these cars? I have had some experiance with Autronic SM4 on other makes, I know the scalability is there, but any preferances?

Sorry for the 1,000,000 questions. Nice write up just seeking some more info if you dont mind. Great work!

No worries on the 1,000,00 questions and I'll try to answer stuff as I can- obviously EVO has considerable IP behind some of the answers so if I don't give that away you'll know why... The sleeves/liners are the same stock ones which are nickasil coated etc.. I believe only CJV has tried something else? With HP coatings? I can't remember who it was. But no iron that I know of so far. We did not mess with the stroke and there are too many reasons to list on this although folks like VRAlexander, Protomotive etc.. have figured for the same reasons it's not really worth going beyond 3.6L on these motors. There are other, cheaper and somewhat better ways to achieve similair goals in power/delivery. Correct on the headgaskets and bolts. The ARPs have had a few revisions as well. The head gasket is good for the GT800s and beyond that EVO is now o-ringing for even more safety. Oversized valves is again something that only CJV has been messing with (in his own thread in the mod forum), which is again not an easy process and until he finishes it nobody will know just where it'll take us. Right now the options are "lighter" for better revving.

The motronic can adjust to some degree but when you start to take out the variocam then again you're in CJV's boat where he is trying to get around a few issues. If you stay with the Variocam and a good programmer you're in good shape. Otherwise you may as well go Motec....

Not just o-ringing . . . EVOMS has employed a comprehensive approach for added safety.

Incorrect. I have oversized valves. So does VRAlex.
