If you are purely using the shoe for better pedal feel and are only using them for DE events or on the street, then you should look at a "karting" version of many race shoes. The only difference is that the karting shoes are not SFI or FIA rated (and are significantly cheaper than their nomex cousins). Since you are probably going to be wearing jeans, a cotton shirt and no gloves, not having fire retardant shoes is the least of your problems if there should be a fire. I would, however, recommend a good quality full face helmet.....do not skimp on an open face.

Go to the Puma Store and buy a pair of narrow driving type shoes. A pair you will wear on a regular basis. They will cost you under a $100 and you will wear them more then 2 or 3 times a year. You don't really need certified, flame retardant shoes do you? Your car catches on fire and your body burns but your feet are cool? lol!!! Get a pair of shoes you can enjoy on every spirited drive! I enjoy my driving type shoes just about everyday. I am a Puma shoe nut and I am not the alone on this forum for sure!!!

Have fun at the DE

I just got the Numostro RS's two weeks ago I love them! Great for driving...

Another option if you're on a bit of a budget is wrestling shoes. Super comfortable and great pedal feel. I used those for awhile before buying racing shoes. But that was just for autocrossing. I'd only wear fire-retardent gear on a high-speed road race track.

I got these because of the durable sole for walking around too. Not as much pedal feel as a thinner-soled racing shoes, IMO, but pretty decent looking, versatile and not too geeky "hey look at my shoes".

with wrestling boots you can pull a lightning takedown in the event of a road rage incident as well.
