Question on TechArt type II Front

Was at a F car event yesterday and had a person ask me if I ever had a rock get thrown up into the radiator and cause any damage since it is exposed in the center....

I know that it does accumulate leaves and small stones/rocks on occasion.

Anybody ever here of this happening?

My Techart Type II was the first one installed in North America. I have had the car to top speed on several occassions. The front bumper has been painted three times due to the "sand blasting" effect of road debris. So far no damage to the radiators.

My bigger fear would be sucking up a plastic bag and cutting off cooling. There is all kinds garbage on the roads these days.
I can't tell you how many times I am driving along and see a plastic bag on the road and as I pass I look in the rear view mirror to make sure I left it behind!

KPV - so funny...I do the same except my fear is that that those bags touch my exhaust or headers as they woueld melt on contact and stick to the metal and are then near impossible to remove!!

KPV,

If you saw my overhead control console, you would immediately realize that isn't a possibility.

Msindi,

My headers are wrapped with Thermo Tec wrapping. You could touch them at the temperatures attained during WOT and not burn your fingers.

Chad,
Please explain your comment. I made my comment based on my own fears with my GT2 nose which is similar from the perspective of debris and damage. I see it as a front end loader collecting all debris in my path.

It can happen, Gary. I lost an bumper mounted oil cooler on a race car due to rock damage. You could always have a mesh grill made at the expence of airflow to the radiator, but even that does not work all the time.

My previous car was a Dinan M3 cab. While drivin on highway 87 a pigeon flew directly in front mof me, extremely low to the ground - I had no choice but to hit it. Lookinng behind me all I see is a plume of feathers. I think to myself - "poor little bird".

Upon arriving at my destination, I take a look at my front spoiler. There appears to be no damage. I do however notice a feather fall out of one of the air intake holes located next to the fog light. I get down on my knees and to my surprise the bird is LODGED in the hole. Needless to say there was no damage and I felt really bad for that bird -

KPV,

I can't stop the damage, however, with my console, I am aware of anything that goes wrong instantaneously (through digital gauges and alarms). Water Temperature, Cylinder Head Temperature, Oil Temperature, Oil Pressure, Tranny Temperature, Differencial Temperature, Intercooler (before/after/delta) Temperature, Exhaust Temperature (each port), Nitrous Temperature, Nitrous Pressure, Air Fuel Ratio, Fuel Pressure, Boost in Bar (before and after throttle body) and individual tire pressure.

It is finished now, here are some unfinished pictures on one of the two consoles. This is the overhead one. I don't have finished pictures yet.

S Car Go Racing Upper Control Module.

Controls Continued.
This is the upper area (above windshield) where the S Car Go Racing upper control module is located.

Lower S Car Go Racing Control Module.

When it comes to high end power, suspension, control work etc. Rob and S Car Go Racing are at the top.

KPV,

The only thing changed from the above pics is the color of the glass and it was made using a single piece instead of multi pieces. The color was changed to obtain better clarity.

This may sound strange, but I believe anyone who builds a monster motor requires all these guages and alarms. The first thing I noticed when using them is the water and oil temperatures. You don't realize how long it takes for the engine, tranny and differencial oil to come up to temperature. Anyone who pushes it before everything comes up to the proper temperature is shaving miles off the life of their investment. In addition, I love the oil pressure reading in digital pounds. There is no guess work as to how many pounds pressure you have at all rpm ranges. In addition, I can retrieve any statistic over a certain time period as it is recorded.

The car is supposed to be picked up early next week from S Car Go Racing baring rain. If so I will get some finished pics.

Chad,
As I said, I would love to see the final pics. I would also like to know what is involved with creating these gages. Did Scargo do it all in house? I would like to know if they could make another for me, while also supplying the sensors and some directions for installation. This way, I could swap out the roof panel, install the sensors and wires and voila!
Please let me know if this is feasible.

Chad, awesome!

I am in full agreement on getting to temps before using the right foot. My Lambo has 18 quarts of oil and it takes damn near 30 minutes to get up to full temp. Sometimes that seams like an eternity.

I agree as well regarding the temps. Why does Porsche state to drive immediately at varying rpms though?
