New Range Rover

I was also looking at the G55 -> not much additional performance but kinda cool. I als like the looks of the X5. As much as I would like to support Porsche with my next SUV purchase, the fact that it is modelled after the Hyundai Santa Fe is a major turn off!

The only thing that I am concerned about is the old Range Rover stigmata about being more in the shop rather than on the road. I have read from your posts that the BMW engines have corrected this problem, but still am very hesitant.
Currently I drive the Escalade and know that I will never need to worry about this car since its a GMC engine and they are not as intricate as MB or RR engines. I also feel that this engine has been tested and prooven to last for a long time, where as I am unsure about the RR.
Right now I am on my way to go test drive the G500 and the Range Rover. I guess thats the only way to decide

Why buy a truck that handles like a truck...ie G500/RR, when you can buy a truck that handles and performs like a Porsche
Cayenne all the way....If the S is'nt enough for you, then buy the TT...

i've driven a Cayenne Turbo and a S...
Also I own ML55, and I've test drove G500...and I've rode on Range Rover b4...
But I still perfer G-class...^___^
after all, it's a jeep that you're purchasing... but a race car... if you want a high performance car, buy a sports car like TT.
The range rover, I don't quite like the ride... and interior design... it just don't look as good as the G class or the ML or the Cayenne. (in my opinion though...some may disagree with it)
And for cayenne, the ride is just way too harsh for a Jeep. it doesn't feel like a jeep anymore... so... nope thanx...
G class... I love it, maybe it looks like a box...but it's really really nicely built. it feels better than my ML55... and i like its classic looking. the style never changed. but you never know...it's a personal preference... and besides... u don't see G class often on road... hehehehehe

At the end of December we traded our 2003 Range Rover for a 2004 with the luxury interior package. The RR is primarily my wife's vehicle, but we both love it, especially for trips or taking people out to dinner. I primarily drive a Cayenne TT, and it clearly is more driving fun. If we could have only one... hmmm. Would probably take the RR for all around use.
Build quality on our '03 RR was excellent. Really no problems except for a steering wheel tilt motor replacement. The '04 is perfect. The Cayenne TT has been in for service several times for relative minor glitches.
The BMW engine in the RR is great. In '05-'06 RR will switch to a Jaguar based engine with high HP option.
Drive them all. They are luxury vehicles and it really comes down to personal choice.

Luting, Well said, I feel that you buy a SUV to buy a SUV not a sports car, the Cayenne TT is an overpriced vehicle, and for people that live in places with snow, have fun with those tire setups on the Cayenne, there has been complaints on that issue, the G500 is a heavy truck and built like a tank, its not for everyone but it will go through the Range and then a Cayenne if they get in its way.
The Cayenne is awesome in the snow....You can expect it to perform in the snow with summer performance tires... I have winter wheels with dedicated snows and I can say that driving in severe slick conditions with this vehicle is awesome and safe. I have to laugh when people think it suks in the slick...Usually blaming the truck rather than looking at the wheels....
Forget about all season radials...They suck...You need performance summer tires for the summer and snows for the winter, end of story...

Kevin - I also had an ML55 and I am sorry to tell you but its a POS!! The interior sux and mine had so many problems including failed ppower steering several times (the released a recall after I got rid of it)...Almost killed me once!
The RR is much better on the inside and handles better...For new england snow days both the X5 4.6 and the ML55 are USELESS!!! Range ROver is the best....I have not driven a cayenne TT but at 100K for a 'second'/beater car no thanks....

While my choice for only one would be the Range Rover, I can't understand the controversy over two sets of wheels for the Cayenne. When I purchased my Cayenne TT, the next week I purchased a set of 18" Turbo wheels with Porsche N Dunlop Grandtrek tires. I switched the wheels in early December (1 hour total time) and the Cayenne TT is awesome in the snow. If we are all about maximizing performance, there should be no question re the necessity of two sets of wheels. $2K add'l on a $90K truck should be no big deal!

Chris, I think the main arguement people have is they buy the Cayenne because its a SUV, then they have to go and change to a winter tire/wheel package, people dont want to be bothered with that, its a joke.
