Tires make a HUGE difference in snow. The first year I owned my 993 turbo I drove it in the snow. With the stock tires it would get stuck on flat ground in the snow and ice. With Blizzaks on the thing was a tank.

You have to change to snows if you live in Michigan!

Wow. I just came back from the MB dealership, which is right next to the RR dealership. The G500 is my new car. Wow that car is beautifully built, stylish, and so old school charmingly solid. i felt like I was in a different world when i sat in that car. Granted it is quite the small car compared to the Escalade, but to be so hot, some sacrifices need to be made.
As my dad always said, there is nothing like a Mercedes. Cadillac you did a great job with the escalade, but its no Mercedes. Wow
Now G55 or G500. And what color?!

Opinions please!

Thanks for all your help. once again this board prooves how helpful and educational P-car owners are.

Sorry but that thing is just a big ugly BOX! Nothing about the outside looks good to me.

Just my .02 cents of course.

Seriously, while well built, I could say a 1945 Sherman tank is well built....Driveablility/handling/performance just not up to snuff in this day in age. Now if you wanted to keep it for a long time and live in Africa, that would be my choice. Not the American market, IMNSVHO

Both Range and Gwagon are great trucks, I was very close to buying blk/blk G55 November of 2002 but dealer was being tough because of limited availability, now there are great deals to be had. To address the beauty issue of the G, it has to do with its uniqueness and rarity in the US, it is well built and go just about anywhere, my $.02. The Range is great but the value plunges like an anchor and the lease deals are far from good. Also what will happen when the swith is made to Ford/Jaguar engines?

^____^ In my opinion... G500 is enough... since it's a jeep, you the G55 isn't that much better if compared to G500... but the price tag is way higher...(if i don't remember wrong). But if the price is similar with 10-15G in difference, they you might consider G55. IMO

I like Black for sure, it's the best looking G-class color. I personally don't like black, b/c it's hard to take care of. But I chose black for my ML55, and will choose black for my future G-class when I'm selling my ML.

I have an '03 RR (and also a '94 LWB and a '94 Defender 90) and it's great for what it is - and a racecar it is not. Have had no problems whatsoever; it is built much better than the previous model (I traded a 4.6L for this one).

I think the G500 is more "eclectic"; the bigget problem I have heard from other owners is the side windows are almost perfectly vertical so there can be some pretty serious glare issues.

Nice choice, we have a Silver/Black G500, Im sure you will be happy with it, I think the G500 is fine and dont see a need for a G55 but thats my preference.

Agree with all of you

The G55 is a car that you would definitely buy since its value will stay with it as you put miles on it, since it is an AMG. The G55 is kind of unnecessary for me right now unless I get a killer deal on it, which I will then bite on, but for now the G500 is the perfect automobile.

Thanks for all the help

I think either Capri Blue, Tectite Gray (gunmetalish), or Silver. Tints. Thats all i need

Engine choice will depend on your driving.
If you go off-road, I wouldn't recomend the 55. Yes, you do need more torque, but with 3 lockers ... that extra torque might as well snap a driveshaft! lol
If all you do is pavement (please, no) ... well ... go ahead with AMG.

I can't believe mercedes is still selling these ... 30 years after it was designed (granted there has been an undercarriage overhaul 15 years ago...)

As I said earlier, with deals like this it would be stupid to buy a new G500!!

It's a Silver '03 G55 with 6k miles at MBZ of Miami for......$75,999!! When I was looking at new G500s a 1.5 years ago, I recall that being the new price!
