Question New Range Rover

Hey all

I just read that Dario has a Range Rover as his everyday whip. Well my everyday car happens to be a Caddy Escalade and was interested in upgrading to a Mercedes G500 or a Range Rover.

I know that Mercedes will be a reliable car but will have a huge *** bill when it comes to maintenance.

I am skeptical about Range Rover. I had a Freelander for a while and that car sucked. Granted the Freelander is a piece of garbage and half the price of a RR, it still is the same company. To those with RRs, are they any better than previous generations?

Thanks in advance

I have an 02 G500, and I love it. Not the fastest truck, nor the most luxurious, but the difference is in the intangibles....there's just something about the build quality and feel that makes it a favorite of mine.

Prior to the purchase, I test drove the Range and it felt a little "loose" to me. The build quality wasnt there IMO.

Actually, I thought the G500 includes factory scheduled maintenance, like all new Mercedes Benz models.

Why not get a Porsche Cayenne Turbo? That's a sweet little truck.

I thing the G is UGLY!!! I can only imagine what the coefficient of drag is on that thing...
My dad has an 03 Range and loves it...He had an 01 before (4.6) but found it underpowered. The new one is much better. Its not a high performance truck but you can always add a Hamann engine
Tyson- the Cayenne turbo and rangfe rover differ in price by about 30 Gs!!

Own an 93 Range Rover since new, Just traded in my 03 Range Rover for an 04 with 22's. Love it. It is the best vehicle yet. The new body style with the BMW motor is awsome. Go for the best and you won't regret it. If you have any specific questions feel free to contact me. Have a lot of miles in a new RANGE ROVER.

I am considering a G500 also. We need a 4th vehicle. Or better put, my wife needs 1 .

I was also looking at the G55 -> not much additional performance but kinda cool. I als like the looks of the X5. As much as I would like to support Porsche with my next SUV purchase, the fact that it is modelled after the Hyundai Santa Fe is a major turn off!

I have a 04 Range and I think it's the best car/truck I've ever owned. With the bmw drivetrain and chassis, plus the Land Rover suspension, you can't miss. Plus the styling on the inside is decades ahead of the G500.

Oh yah, all service is free on the new range for the first 50k.

Both are awesome vehicles. The Range certainly seems to be much more advanced than the G and has a better interior, but I love them both. My Indian buddies all think the G is ugly...but they admit it is because it looks exactly like a 50bhp, Indian made Suv!

I test drove a G55 about a year ago....and let me say that is a fun SUV! Quick with an AWESOME exhaust note. The best part is, you can now pick them up in the $70's with hardly any miles!

I went to purchase a G, but was disappointed -- It is great, but simply overpriced. I drove the 04 RR and was sure I was going to hate it, after all, I only liked the Defender... Ended up buying the RR on the spot. It is a BMW 7 series SUV. There is simply no compairison to the G... The Cayenne Turbo is a nice alternative...

DRIVE THEM -- ONLY WAY TO DECIDE

I dont feel comfortable driving a G500, I felt dizzy, its too high up, it feels like your driving a fridge around. Also do you feel comfortable going down the highway at 80mph and having to make a high speed lane change with it?? I sure as hell would not. that thing would roll! I would get a Range Rover any day of the week! The G500 is a novelty

Watch the crash test on the G500, it would t-bone a Range and keep on going.
