Switching Suspension - This Time it's Motons!

Just when I thought it was safe to never mod my darned car anymore...
OK so I'm now on number 18 suspension kit for my car However with much sadness I kissed good bye to my track-proven JRZ set up (a local customer wanted them THAT bad lol!). I'll miss the JRZ set up for sheer aggressiveness but the set up that I'm going to is a very tried and tested Moton ClubSport set from EVO. It makes a lot of sense since that's what we seem to install a lot of the time. I've always felt the PSS9 kit isn't quite good enough for the 996TT. It's just underdamped and the spring rate is too soft for how heavy the car is. Then when you stiffen the shocks all the way it starts to over-power the springs and bobbles around all over the place. If you can swing it (price-wise), more and more of us Bay Area turbo guys are going Motons. And before any of you say "Oh it's too harsh for the street etc...". Absolute cobswallop! Most people I know that have started with PSS9s and then continually stiffended them up before switching to Motons now say. "Man, I can't believe how comfy the ride quality is". It's very flat and not harsh either. The springs/shocks are well matched for the weight of the car to put it in laymans terms... There are plenty of different options for the springs so I can go over that with you guys if need be. And don't worry we can always charge/recharge and check pressures for you but the way these new seals are I've never seen them leak. You can see the last pic where we're charging them with nitrogen. I'll show you some more pix later today but the camber plates that come with the kit also allow for another degree of camber in the front. The new billet clamps are pretty nice too if you have a roll bar and/or strut brace (I'll show you thsoe later).

So in essence if any of you in NorCal are thinking of doing something suspension-wise, my car is always at the shop and you are welcome to try it out anytime. You pay for your own C16 and Speeding Tickets tho...

Great stuff Sharky!!!... The cost factor compared to other suspension might be a tad steeper, but the reviews I'm reading about the Motons seems mind-bogglingly flawless! Congrats on your new setup SHarky!

I was talking this over with a few fellow Moton, JRZ users that had either H&Rs or PSS9s etc... and we all agreed that whilst the price jump is significant in the end this is what really sets the bar in terms of handling. Also you do get four of those camber plates with the kit that are worth around 1K. However there isn't anything inbetween the 2.5K -6K range sadly. I wish there was!

could spring rate be a reson why my front set of pss9's have a blown seal and why they leak fluid???

That and the weight. I will say though, it is uncommon for any Bilstein's to leak. I've seen maybe 1 or 2 leaky shocks in 3 years and we've done a lot of them.

You can NOT believe how much badgering it took to get Sharky to relinquish those JRZ's!!! Was it two, three months of non-stop harrassment or did I miss some other times??? (BTW, those late night calls and drive-by's were not me. I swear. Not like the time I stalked JWGT2's wing )

But in the end, it was SOOO worth it!!! The JRZ's are SIMPLY AWESOME!!! When Sharky finally decided to let them go, I ditched my 350 miles new JIC's in a hurry. And after having tried stock, H&R's, PSS9's, and JIC's, there is just no comparison--they might be steep (price-wise), and you sure do get what you paid for!!!

alex, what would you suggest for us, a C4S that is 85% street-15% track with a beginner--ameture driver...the PSS9's are great, but don't give a real solid feel...

i DD from San Francisco to San Jose (well, for 2 more weeks and then i'm done ) and the Motons are excellent. if anyone has driven on our wonderful Bay Area roads, you'll know how crappy they are. the Motons are very stiff, but very compliant. sounds strange, but the car drives very nice through the city.

Actually, the JRZ triples are actually a higher-end shock than the Moton Clubsports... the range of adjustability of the JRZ triples is mind-boggling. I think this is the first time Sharky has downgraded?

But I hear the valving on the Motons are much more compliant than the JRZ race shocks... since the Clubsport are a semi-race shock that is meant for both street/track use.
