I think it may have been installed wrong. I know with my B&M...no problems. There is an alignment tool that can be used with the stock shifter and there are adjustments that can be made. I do not have the shift linkage.

the way i have it, is that the shifter is visually in the center. All gears go in well and all the way. However, in reverse, the linkage touches the side a little. Its also the spring that gets pulled when you put it into reverse, it makes a noise that leaves an impression that its touching the side.

I just installed a B&M shifter and the AP linkage and had no problems; in an 02 coupe. Suggest that you pull the center console and try some adjustments on the left cable. You can also drive without the console to insure you got it right. I had a Schnell short shifter and pull it out for several problems. B&M is the best out there..
