Removing Rear Windshield Wiper

sharkster,

I understand you have removed yours. How difficult is it to remove? How much weight was eliminated?

Chad I did mine and it was very little weight, like a couple pounds max. I'll try to dig it up and weight it. It was really easy to get to and I just welded the hole rather than replace the rear panel. I can take some picks of that aswell. I took my sunroof out at the same time....that's much easier to do than the old cars but the roof and all the parts were only about 20-25lbs

Hi Chad,

It was REALLY easy (except the roll bar being in the way). You simply pull off the "leather-looking" panel and the sound deadening material behind it. Unbolt about four screws (also don't forget to pop off the palstic cap off of the blade). Pull of the wiper and then take out the motor. I remember when I weighed it the whole thing came to about 12 pounds?

Eric has a wiper delete plug that pops in. Remember to put some sealent in before you plug it, unlike me.. Now I can't pop it out lol

I just ordered the wiper plug. However, back to the weight issue. Two or twelve pounds. There is a big difference here? I am inquiring about the total weight, motor, bolts, wiper arm and wiper. I going to go ahead and remove it regardless. I have never used the rear wiper and to me it detracts from the looks of the 996tt in addition to being a weapon that will inflict damage to your rear quarter panel paint.

Heya Chad, I can tell you mine was not 2 pounds I weighed it, just like I was doing with every other part that I took off. The wiper, the motor and the sound deadening panel did way 12 pounds on mine.. Maybe I had the X50 wiper

sharkster,

I don't need to go deaf. I'll keep the sound deadening in place. What do you think I will lose weight wise without removing the sound deadening?

sharkster,

Get some Griots window polish and Rain Gel. The Rain Gel is not from Griots. You won't need to turn on your wipers in the front or the rear.

You turned me on to the Griots stuff and I've been hooked ever since. I'll give that a go then

Did you plug it in yet? Looks much better!
