Hi guys...I need some info regarding to Ceramic Coating for headers...
I wonder if it beneficial for street cars.
I believe stephan once mentioned that by wrapping the header with thermal tape, it'll decrease its longevity...

now I wonder if Ceramic coating would do the same thing in terms of longevity issue?
otherwise I'm kinda of interested in doing the ceramic coating...
it non-the-less decreases the temp in engine area...

and does anyone know the pricing for ceramic coating????

 

I'd be interested too. A coating might help keep heat in. I don't
know why wrapping is bad, but I'd like to know. It's such a
cheap thing to do, there must be some sort of problem, else
it'd be done more often. Porsche does go to the trouble of
partially double-walling it for insulation... For my purposes, a
stock header, internally cleaned up/ported, and externally
coated (if ceramics actually last) would be cool.

I have done both with Killer Angel. Ceramic coating will decrease engine compartment heat, however, the wrap will do a better job. The ceramic would protect the metal headers from corrosion.

 

yeah... i want to know more about the longevity issue too... why is it bad and etc...

or else I know Kevin does provide service for porting and coating...

 

Cost is about $200.00. I used www.performancecoatings.com It is NOT bad! Their website offers alot of information.

I would not use anyone else. They have done two sets for me. Just go with the 2000 degree coating. The 2400 degree peels off due to the expansion and contraction of the headers. The coating will outlast your ownership of the car. There is no ill effects of ceramic coatings. It takes about five days to get your headers back.

Do I just tell them to have my header coated with 2000 degree coating? 1 coating only?

Do I need to ask them to have my header cleaned and ported?

Chad, they did my Lambo headers and they are beautiful. When I do my engine work they will do the tt headers. The coating is inside and out. I didn't take measurements of temps before and after but I will for the tt.

The company is in Illinois, their quality is excellent and the cost is low. I chose silver but you can get black and other colors.

 

It sounds like you are using stock headers when you mention "porting." I would e-mail them with a question as to weather this process is applicable on cast iron headers. I have always done it on stainless steel headers. If so use the "satin" finish and choose the color you want. Certain colors have higher temp ratings. You can inquire with them on this. Also, if this works on cast iron headers, then do any porting first. You don't need to clean them as they bead blast the inside and outside with walnut media before they apply and bake the coating.

I have the evo header...^__^ I guess that eliminates the job... and should be quite easy for them to do.

I just emailed them regarding to the product... i want them to rush it for me so I can get it sometimes next week for installation along with my stage4 kit...

 

I wouldn't touch the headers. If anything would need porting, it would be the exhaust ports on the heads.
