Got beat by the Upsolute!

My buddy Stephen and I were cruising on the highway testing out his upsolute turbo vs. my renntech sl600. Renntech claims 625HP and 745lb ft. of torque and 11.1 in the 1/4 mile with drag radials. However, blasting up from about 60mph to about 135mph, it was pretty close although, around 138-140mph, Stephen wizzed right by me at the top of 5th. My mods: $6400.00. Stephen's: $500.00. Still not used to the V12 Laggy SL, and the car only has 300 miles on it, so I'm hoping it'll get faster as she gets more broken in. Just figured out there is a Manual Mode for shifting, but no paddle shifters. Renntech offers a paddle shifter steeringwheel option, but who knows.

As far as smoothness.....Super impressive. Infact too smooth for my taste. The car is cruising at 140, but it feels like 55. Power is Firm, comes on strong, but as a driver you barely feel it. Passenger g force is very evident.

I'm just wondering where the 745lb ft of torque is? Gee knowing my luck, its probably after 140. The speedshift program of the SL65 is uploaded to the Transmission ecu, and shifts instantly. Infact, with the ESP off, starting from a toll booth, the car shifted to second, and left a stretch. Still in love with it, and can't wait to ship it to FL, where its true use will shine.

Heya Shank,

A guy here that I've messed with owns that S600 Renntech (Ben) and his car would be the same result back when I had that chip only Fron a stop, you can put on some BFGs and pull 1.7 60 foots and about 11.7s-12.0s all day long. It's close tho...

I saw a video of an S600 do 11.3 with drag radials. It does have insane traction problems.

Hehe that's Ben Treynor, the guy I was talking about. His best is 11.7 though? Maybe I'm not up to date

Given more room, she had a lot more to go. I am sure I would have passed after that point. The RPMs were still low - around 4k.

The SL600 Renntech was definitely smooth in its power delivery. Very classy yet aggresive all at the same time. Amazingly effortless. It's what Darth Vader would drive. Shank... use the force... use it often...

On the run that we had from about 60~140, I started about 6 car lengths behind the SL, and it took til about 130's mph to overtake the MB. At the point that the Turbo overtook the SL, the Turbo was carrying noticeably more speed than the SL.

The V12TT in the SL is still pretty green, and with a little break-in period, it'll only get stronger. But, I think 996T Stage IIs should have the advantage on SL600 Renntechs.

We'll also be trying out Shank's GT2 as soon as possible... that thing should literally blow the doors off of my car (Upsolute, Cargraphic Exhaust, K&N) due to it's approx 150whp advantage. And we should have a Sportec RS6 vs. Upsolute too at some point. Stay tuned...

Lou, that sounds so fun... if only there wasn't ice, snow, and negative wind-chill temps to deal with! I can't wait til Spring when we can go cruising again. I need to move out West...
