Looks like the 996 TT is hitting rock bottom prices...
At the end of the day I don't really care. I chose to go with a 2002 low mile 996TT, mod the crap out of it (engine, brakes, suspension, tranny), put in every piece of CF I could, and will pimp the stereo out next (already did the K40)....with everything I've done I'm still way below the msrp of the 997tt and I've got a car that will walk one like a chihuahua...I'm in for the long haul and loving it.
don't forget that dealers keep the jems to retail, and only send the rats to auction to liquidate w/o risk...but this increases buyers risk who don't get to do a full inspection before buying and could end up with a car held togather by bandaids and that drinks oil by the gallon when they get it back to home base. This risk shows in the lower prices paid....

if turbos are hitting crazy low prices... i hope the m3s are too since i'm going to buy one soon...
it seems that m3 prices are very stable and not falling at all... why would turbos fall so much and not m3s? anybody know the approx cost of a 2004 m3 certified approx 10k miles?

If this car was white on red I would have already traded my 01 Jet Black in for it
I buy these cars as a reward to myself and I buy them for my enjoyment. I knew that Porsche Turbos would tank when I bought my first one, and I knew that they HAVE TANKED when I bought my second one.
If someone has to pinch the pennies and buy these cars based on a potential future value, they need to sit on the sidelines. This is different from buying pre-owned based on current value; we're talking about people who want or need to jump in and out and not be upside-down. I'm not trying to come off as a big "player", but these cars are toys, not necessities, and people shouldn't use risk capital to fund this hobby
PERFECTLY STATED. I COULDN'T AGREE MORE. YOU BUY THIS CAR, NOT BECAUSE IT IS A GOOD DEAL, BUT BECAUSE YOU WANT A TOY AND CAN AFFORD TO PLAY.

Be careful buying cars at auction, they are usuallly there for a reason ( I've bought many). You have to be a dealer, and they are wise to all the schemes, it is common to be outbid by a big volume dealer, and lastly, you usually only have a few minutes to look over a car (if that) requiring a split second decision. Most auction cars are high milage off lease, lemon buybacks and the like.
Remember, you get what you pay for, and if it's good it ain't cheap, if it's cheap it ain't good!
Price wise, my friend traded his '02 x50 aerokit 7k miles TT in on a new one, they only gave him 69k on it and flipped it for 86k. ( even though it had 7k miles, it was rode hard and put up wet, tons of scratches, abused)

[QUOTE=srt10viper]I have been watching the 996TT at the auctions and since the 997TT debut the 996 had taken a HUGE dive.
Look at what the 2005 996 Turbo S are going for at the auctions
:
Search: Select Region: National Year:2005 Make:PORSCHE Model:911 TURBO Style:COUPE TURBO
Auction Averages For Week Ending Aug 30
Above Average Below
Sale Price$78,097 $70,377 $62,657
Mileage 4,869 9,737 14,606
Average Auction Mileage 9737
Just did a search on autotrader.com to see what people are asking. An '03 with under 30k miles is in the mid 80's still. Yes, they are coming down but not bottoming-out in the 60's just yet in the retail market.

I think what he is trying to say is that they aren't going much lower. Get em while they're hot.... 01 TT's in the high 50's and 03 SRT's solidly in the mid 50's, it's a great time to be a car guy.

Common guys..LOL
What stated is auction price meaning wholesale... you will never be able to buy these cars at the used car dealer's lot for the auction price..if you want a price like that, then go to the auction...
I think he's post is very helpful, and helps us bargain a used car sitting on the dealer's lot.. because I;m sure it all came from there..
when you trade a car in and they buy low, it goes there first.. not all cars at the dealers auction are bad.. just what everyone stated.. inspection is a must,, or maybe extended warranty..LOL
