There are a lot of parts on the Porsche that aren't necessarily Porsche made. Starting with the tires as a broad "for instance". It could be that much of the six speed manual is also outsourced. The seats are mostly from Recaro and many of the wheels are made by Speedline in Italy.
Doesn't make 'em bad, it's just the reality of manufacturing in small quantities that it is more effecient to go outside for many sub-assemblies.

not quite...... But Porsche did do the chassis work. Otherwise, the motor is all MB. I had a 1993 500E. Wonderful car. Sold it to a guy in the East Coast.
