is that for real?? i have pic of the tranny has MB logo on it

Yes...the tip tranny is a MB part. Only tranny out there that handeled the power. I think it's also used on the SL55/500 and the Maybach.

That's right. It's the same tranny as in the S600.

Not unusual really

There are a lot of parts on the Porsche that aren't necessarily Porsche made. Starting with the tires as a broad "for instance". It could be that much of the six speed manual is also outsourced. The seats are mostly from Recaro and many of the wheels are made by Speedline in Italy.

Doesn't make 'em bad, it's just the reality of manufacturing in small quantities that it is more effecient to go outside for many sub-assemblies.

Many years ago Rolls-Royce was buying Their automatic transmissions from Chrysler!

Oh well, if the tranny is going to be outsourced let it be MB, they make the best slush boxes in the Biz!

BMW parts in our cars too

On this thread - when I replaced my little rear license plate lights, the plastic cover has a BMW badge on it!!

not quite...... But Porsche did do the chassis work. Otherwise, the motor is all MB. I had a 1993 500E. Wonderful car. Sold it to a guy in the East Coast.
