Jim, do they make such large quantities of the Z06? are you sure you are not talking about the the standard 400 hp vette? i had thought the Z0 5/Z06, etc is limited quantity and certainly not "mass" produced?

I guess it depends upon what you would call limited. In 2001, 5773 Z06's were sold, 8297 in 2002 and 8635 in 2003. The sales represented about 20-25% or so of all Corvettes produced. By comparison, about 2500 Turbos were produced world-wide for 2002. I don't know how many of them were in the States, but I'd guess half. By my rough calculations, a Z06 is about 7 times more common than a 911 Turbo.

boy Jim, i'm impressed with those numbers you threw out! it seems likethey make a nice number of the z06's but I still don't see the big deal about leaving a thousand bucks with theoption of it being refunded. as you know, sometimes the "hunt" is far more exciting than the "catch". whether it's a vette, porsche turbo, SL55, or Gallardo we all will get sick of it after awhile and want something we don't have...
You are so right about "the hunt" and becoming "sick" although not the exact word, maybe "restless with" or "time for a change". I don't see the big deal at all about the $1000, just don't convince yourself this is the car for you, otherwise you are ruining "the hunt". If you are looking at it as one potential option and just positioning yourself accordingly, then it makes sense. I think mine and JAS' point was that considering the time frame there isn't a need to give them your $ now, unless they are also guaranteeing you one of the first cars at the right $. If so, make sure the actually write on the "reservation", or whatever they are calling it since it cannot be an order yet, 2006 Z06 at MSRP or less and car # 1,2 ...5 from this dealership. If they aren't writing "MSRP" and giving you a car # or it isn't #5 or less, walk away as they are yanking you, friend of a moderator or not. Possibly the first couple of cars will go at MSRP but maybe not even them. On a car produced at these numbers, you usually don't see a feeding frenzy. The one exception would be if when GM starts releasing actual info on the car and it turns out to be WAY better than expected, i.e. some Blue Devil-ish numbers of 550-600 HP, then there will be quick action and the lists will grow quickly. I don't think this info will come out for at least another 6 months at the earliest, and don't really think they will make the Z06 that much better than the stock Vette. If you decide to do it, and I think you will, put me on the list right behind you and lay out the $ for me, since you've got these spare $1000's laying around. I'll consider it a goodwill gesture toward our professional relationship and can practically guarantee you a Z06 worth of referrals.
