They'll probably add another chain guide on the 997 to fix it. It doesn't bother me as long as it's not something that is going to break.

At least it's not those nice quiet toothed rubber belts.

i'd just like to say that "common" is probably more correct than "normal". just because they all do it (or atleast most), and it is seemingly harmless yet annoying, doesn't make it "normal"...its just like our wives *****ing about our mod $$.

One could say the noise adds character.

My car makes no such noise. I would be calm if it is not harmful,
but I would certainly prefer that it not happen.

Yeah, bad character. I am going to continue to try to find a way to correct the problem. To say it is normal and give up is not acceptable. If each the car blew it engine at 10K miles, it would be both normal and common, but not acceptable.

BTW, my car has 14,100 miles on it; 4K since September :-)

Noise

My car has made it since new and it does not do it all the time. When I step on the clutch it goes away. I was told it was the transmission and rotation of the gears while stopped. That is why the noise goes away when you step on the clutch. It has nothing to do with the engine. At least that is what my dealer said. About 50% of the turbos have this problem which is "normal" I have 6,000 miles on the car now and it is not as noisy as at wasl

I hear that if you get the FabSpeed Loud exhaust, the
chain noise problem goes away completely

The clutch noise and the engine noise are similar sounds, but they are two different "problems".

I'm suprised there is so much chain noise since the turbo is on the "Briggs and Stratton" cam lobes at idle. It may go away with the clutch pressed because the throw out bearing pushes the crankshaft a few thousandths rearward(?)
I saw where some Nascar teams now use toothed belts instead of a cam chain to dampen the camshaft torsional vibrations. I'd rather have a 200,000 mile chain than a 40,000 mile belt though.
