I have a "mod'd" tip and love the car. Hands down, if I had nerves in my left leg, I'd drive a 6 speed. I have never let the transmission decide when to shift - I shift every time, but the tip does not shift as clean as a manual. Probably faster than most people, but it's just not the same.

If you have two good legs - six speed.

 

Manual tranny delivers more driving excitement but I believe majority of drivers are faster in a Tip. So It come down to what is your first priority? fun or speed? BTW, I believe Sharkster's car has 700hp and that requires an additional tranny cooler. So if you are going for 600hp or above in a Tip you probably have to do something similar to guarantee long term reliability.
My Tip TT has stage 3 ECU , exhaust, header,etc.. The guy who did my car told me he modded lots of Tip TT so we are certainly not alone. BTW, he also told me that X50 Tip does have a stronger tranny.

as a daily driver - tip
as a w/e driver - manual

I also think IMHO most of the people who trash a tip have never driven a Tip (Turbo) extensively.

 

The Tip may be easier to launch, but that has to be balanced against the gearing difference it has with the 6-speed.

The overall gear ratio in each specific gear is lower in the Tip versus the 6-speed. Given equal FWHP between the two cars, the Tip is down in total truning force at the wheels by a substantial amount in 1st and 4th gears.

 

Both are great, however I can not bring myself to buy a slush box porsche, also in the long run the manual will prove more durable.

 

if it's even an issue then buy the Tip. I don't know how anyone could possibly be on the fence about what type of transmission they prefer in a sports car. Either you HAVE to have a manual tranny (which is how i am), or don't worry about it. I mean it's two completely different experiences that really don't compare to eachtoher in any way.

With the 6 speed you have the too short first gear, somewhat vague, weak cable shift linkage, and the somewhat vague hydraulic clutch. You have to abuse the clutch in a drag race standing start. A good fast 1-2 shift is very difficult.
On the other hand the tip weighs 100 pounds more, has a slower top speed, and you have a potential high dollar repair job if it ever breaks.

 

Theres nothing more satisfying than rowing your own gears. Especially if youre coming from a Z06, you'll def. appreciate the Turbo more with the 6 speed!

 

I would only buy a tiptronic if it was at a really good price.

Still I'd probably regret not spending the extra money for the manual...

It is not a real porsche unless it has 3 pedals- 6 speed u ***** piece of ****. Tips are for trophy wifes in their m3 cabs. Be a man, son!
